Your 1st HOF Class - How Do You Do It?
2017 will be the 1st season players will be eligible for the HOF in my EBL league. I have 2 players 1 hitter and 1 SP. Should I wait until a few years down the road when I can induct several at a time and if I have lean years I can vote in someone who may have been on the ballot for a few years?
How do you do your HOF 1st class?

I do all mine manually. A player has to be retired for 3 years before he gets considered.
If he meets my criteria, he gets in. I don't wait until there's a bunch, they go in when eligible/qualified. |

I elect two players each season sorted by age (45-60) and certain minimum stats (ie 5,000 PA for hitters). I choose the best of the eligible crop regardless of how weak/strong the group may be but will give a player towards the end of their eligibility closer looks.

I use my balloting system based on war and keep yearly ballots. 15 years on the ballot and 75% vote gets in

Could you elaborate? I probably won't use WAR, i would use hard stats. Here are 5 players who will be up for HOF induction eventually, not all are 1st ballot guys.

In that thread i show how i do it. i believe i have changed it since then but that shows the idea. Before WAR was in OOTP i did have a statistics based version but i can't find it on this computer right now. Both systems worked fairly well. It added big time to my immersion to my fictionals and was worth the extra time in the offseason. |

Here are my first few classes; 2014: Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Frank Thomas, Jack Morris 2015: Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Mike Mussina 2016: Ken Griffey Jr. Here are the guys for next year with their year of eligibility and last year's percentage of the vote, not including guys in their first year on the ballot... Craig Biggio (5th - 72.2), Mike Piazza (5th - 69.8), Tim Raines (10th - 66.2), Jeff Bagwell (7th - 63.6), Lee Smith (15th - 56.8), Trevor Hoffman (2nd - 52.6), John Smoltz (3rd - 51.9), Edgar Martinez (8th - 50.9), Barry Bonds (5th - 46.2), Curt Schilling (5th - 45.8), Jeff Kent (4th - 40.3), Roger Clemens (5th - 39.6), Billy Wagner (2nd - 38.9), Kenny Rogers (4th - 35.2), Jim Edmonds (2nd - 35), Larry Walker (7th - 34.6), Brian Giles (3rd - 32.3), Nomar Garciaparra (3rd - 30.7), Gary Sheffield (3rd - 28.2), Luis Gonzalez (4th - 26.3), Fred McGriff (8th - 25.7), Carlos Delgado (3rd - 24.9), Mark McGwire (11th - 21.9), Jason Kendall (2nd - 17), Rafael Palmeiro (7th - 15.8), Sammy Sosa (5th - 14.5), Moises Alou (4th - 14.3), Luis Castillo (2nd - 14.2), Mike Hampton (2nd - 13.2), Garret Anderson (2nd - 12.8), Mike Lowell (2nd - 12.8), Troy Glaus (2nd - 10.2), I like the somewhat randomness of it. There are only a few guys who seem to have a vote percentage off from what I would have in my head, namely, Mike Hampton and Brian Giles with too many votes and Smoltz and maybe Hoffman with too little.

How do these players stats compare in your league? Biggio doesn't have 3000 hits in mine, only 2660, Frank Thomas doesn't have 500 HR. 450 .289 I want to put them in. Maddux, Johnson, Pedro along with Tim Raines & Lee Smith were my 2014 & 2015 classes. No one went in in 2016 (I forgot about induction in August). Griffey will go in in 2017 with 617 HR. Morris will not currently go in in my opinion but I will re evaluate it using the formula. Glavine has 242 wins and was borderline in 2015. I had not considered Moose before, 220 wins. 257 overall 3 seasons in the CBF.

Yeah, didn't mention, this is off the quick-start. So those players were already retired when I started the game. For players like Glavine and Maddux I had to use the formula, and for someone like Biggio who already got votes, I was adding to his existing vote total IRL.

I made a HOF voting simulation that is based on hfield's original system with some modifications that I put in a excel spreadsheet. It simulates the dice rolls with macros. If anybody wants it, PM me your email.

I think instead of having my 1st EBL class be in 2017 I will wait til 2018 or 2020 and give a few players that are borderline more time to see how good they really are. I have like 9 players retiring after 2017 4 of which are 1st ballot guys so that should create a lil bit of a backlog.
