More on scouts
Ok was looking to fill some bench spots found a 43 year old LF one star rating but was a former 6 time all-star had over 2400 hits had 414 home runs over 1400 RBI's and a lifetime batting avg of .279 I know he is old and over the hill but has experience and will be good as a
Pinch hitter however my scout tells me in his reports "career minor leaguer" "Lacks any real power" "lacks patients in the plate" Really? A guy with 21 years of major league experience with pretty dang good career totals is a career minor league player? WTF? Is he looking at the same player? Does he consider a players entire career or just what he has done the last season or two? |

I'm sure with the intention of not sounding totally generic... the scouting report blurbs can come across as being too tailored for young prospects.
But I don't think the meat and potatoes of the message is incorrect. I would guess that the player's current skill level, in the estimation of the scout, is that of a career minor leaguer. The fact that he had 215 hits in a season 15 years ago or whatever isn't relevant to how much he can help your club today. |

That's what I figured perhaps the coding should change instead of saying "career minor league talent" for a veteran in the end of his career it should say something like "declining skills but provides experience and leadership" or something like that.
The game should realize when it's talking about a 22 year old over a 32 or 42 year old. Little wording makes the difference. Last edited by Padreman; 09-05-2013 at 12:50 PM. |

I agree with nunyer.
But, also, if you have scouting set to the level of anything other than perfect accuracy, you could always think of these cases as times when your imperfect, fallible scout is just giving you some wrong info. You can think of it as a good occassion to think to yourself, maybe I should ask Mollie* her opinion, she can't do any worse. (*--insert your own dog/cat or even imaginary friend's name) |

I would agree Padreman. Branching out the blurbs into something like three age ranges... for younger guys, prime years, over the hill types... would basically deliver the some information but would make more sense in context of the player being scouted.
