Balzay edged Little on a good fight!
Former IBO Super 8 Tournament finalist #24 Kardy Balzsay 29-4-0 (21) scored a MD10 win against always complicated #30 Steve Little 24-4-1 (3). Little won the first round on a convincing way but on the second round a wild overhand right by Balzsay dropped Little for a seven count after Little got up Balzsay dropped him again with a strong left-right combination. Little got up again and survived the rest of the round. Balzsay continued dominating on the following round with his uppercut as his best weapon. Little reacted winning the fourth round and after an fifth one Little won a back and forth sixth round with big exchanges on the inside distance. Rounds seven and eight were both for Balzsay that used his right crosses from the outside to put Little on trouble. Little reacted again winning the ninth round on a very convincing way but he needed something special on the last round. The final round started with Balzsay on control hurting Little with a straight right but surprisingly Little connected a great uppercut and dropped Balzsay for a sixth count. Balzsay got up and survived the round without more major trouble. The scorecards were 95-93 (x2) for Balzsay and 94-94. (Fightnews card: 95-94 for Balzsay). On the undercard of this fight #48 Chris Eubank 24-3-1 (7) scored a razor cut majority decsion win against frenchman #45 Jean Paul Mendy 27-4-2 (16). Mendy easily won the first three rounds of the fight against a too passive Eubank. After an awful fourth round without any remarkable action Eubank started to react winning the fifth round on a one sided form. The sixth round was fought on even terms and then Mendy regained the control of the fight on the seventh stanza. Finally Eubank found his pace on the last three rounds winning all of it on a convincing way to put the result of the fight into doubt. The scorecards were 96-95 (x2) for Eubank and 96-96. McCallum stops Pavlik to win the IBO SMW crown!
On a beautiful and changing fight IBO Super4 Tournament winner #37 Mike McCallum 30-2-0 (21) scored a TKO9 victory against, now former, champion #2 Kelly Pavlik 30-2-0 (22). The fight started with great action from the first round with McCallum connecting good uppercuts and hooks from the inside to win the stanza. McCallum continued dominating on the second round and with a great snapping head uppercut he opened up a gash under Pavlik's right eye. With the only highligh of a solid hook to the head Pavlik started his reaction on the third round. The Amercian also dominated the fourth round in which he made McCallum stumbled backwards with a crushing right. The fifth round had great back and forth action with McCallum dominating the early stages and Pavlik rallying on the last minute of the round to finally win it. The sixth round had even action until Pavlik connected a wild overhand right and dropped McCallum for a three count. McCallum got up and the round came to its end. The seventh round was competitive but Pavlik edged it with a hard cross to McCallum’s head near the end of the round. Early on the eighth round Mccallum connected a hard hook to Pavlik’s head that made the Amercian retreat, McCallum went after him and connected a hard cross and a pair of big hooks, Pavlik attmeped to answer the fire but he was clearly outgunned. At the middle stages of the ninth round McCallum connected a huge straight right that let Pavlik out on his feet after that McCallum connected a quick barrage of punches and dropped Pavlik that with great effort got up at nine dazed and bleeding. McCallum went for the definition and connected a right hand but seeing the river of blood over Pavlik face the referee stopped the fight. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 78-73 77-74 (x2) for Pavlik. (Fightnews card: 77-73 for Pavlik). On the co-feature fight of this card #70 Gabriel Hernandez 24-4-1 (7) scored a majority decision win against #64 David Starie 18-5-0 (13). Gabriel Hernandez dominated most of the rounds of the fight until the seventh one but then he seemed to run out of fuel and allowed Starie to win the last three rounds of the fight on a row but it wasn’t enough to challenge for the victory. On an entertaining fight #31 Lucian Bute 31-1-0 (27) scored a convincing unanimous decision win against tough #25 Iran Barkley 26-6-0 (20). The fighters traded the first two rounds of the fight, the first for On the seventh round Barkley had his moment in the fight when he dropped The Romanian regained the control of the fight on the ninth round winning it on a convincing way. On the final round The scorecards were 98-88 97-89 and 99-91 for On the co-feature fight #47 Denis Inkin 23-3-2 (19) and #65 Henry Wharton 23-2-0 (19) fought to a draw. The fighters alternated on the dominance round by round for all the fight. Wharton won the first round convincingly but then Inkin controlled rounds two and three the last on a one-sided form. Wharton reacted winning rounds four and five but again Inkin was better on rounds six and seven but Wharton edged the eighth stanza to even the fight again. Inkin was the clear dominator on the ninth round and the last stanza was fought on even terms. The scorecards were 96-94 for Inkin 96-94 for Wharton and 95-95. (Fightnews card: 96-95 for Inkin). |

#210 Tarick Salmaci scored a unanimous decision victory against fans favourite #156 Roberto Duran. Salmaci dropped Duran on the seventh round and the scorecards were 96-93 and 95-94 (x2) for Salmaci. With this loss Duran down his record to 26-5-0 (9). Miranda stopped Vazquez again! Edison Miranda scored an overwhelming KO1 victory against Julio Cesar Vazquez on a rematch fight. On the first fight between this pair Miranda won by TKO2. |

Eric Regan upsets Thomas Tate to win WBU SMW Title!
Average #41 Eric Regan 24-7-0 (13) scored a surprising unanimous decision victory against WBU super-middleweight champion #48 Thomas Tate 21-1-3 (17). Tate that came from a huge victory against John Mugabi on his first title defense was really out of shape for this fight. Regan won the first two rounds of the bout clearly outlanding Tate, but the champion reacted winning the following two rounds also putting Regan on trouble on the third with an uppercut and again on the fourth round with a straight right. The fifth round had even action but Tate connected the hardest punches to edge it. On the sixth round Regan regained the control of the actions with the highlight of a big right cross to Tate’s head that made the champion stumble. From this point Tate seemed to run out of fuel and Regan easily won the following three rounds outworking a very passive Tate. The champion reacted clearly winning the tenth round and hurting Regan with a hard combination and again with a wicked hook on the eleventh. On this round Regan landed a big right cross but it was not enough to steal the round from Tate. On the last round Regan landed more than Tate also shaking him with a hard one-two combination to secure his victory. The scorecards were 115-113 (x2) and 116-112 for the new champion Regan. (Fightnews card: 115-113 for Regan). Toney stops Mundine on the eighth round! On the co-feature fight #18 James Toney 30-1-0 (21) scored a TKO8 victory against #26 Antony Mundine 23-5-1 (17). Toney looked a bit overweighted for this fight and he seemed to not have training very well. Toney won a cold first round but Mundine edged the second one outworking Toney. The thrid round had great action with Mundine landing more and also hurting Toney with a straight right followed by a quick barrage of punches. On the fourth round Mundine continued dominating the fight but Toney seemed to wake up on the fifth round in which both fighters landed big blows but with Toney a bit better than Mundine. Toney continued his momentum winning the sixth round, both figters landed good blows but it was clear that Toney had more power than the aussie. Toney dominated the seventh round but the referee deducted a point from him by head-butting. Early on the eighth round Toney connected a straight right that hurt Mundine Toney went over him and connected some good blows until another straight right left Mundine out on his feet forcing the referee to stop the actions. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 66-66 (x2) and 67-65 for Mundine. |

Former WBA Super-middleweight champion #23 Chad Dawson 25-2-0 (20) scored a slim but great unanimous decision victory against undefeated star #9 Andre Ward 32-0-1 (16). Ward reacted winning the third round convincingly but On the eighth round Ward reacted edging the ninth round but on the last round On the undercard #52 Jean Pascal 28-2-1 (22) outclassed #55 John Jarvis 17-5-2 (13) to scored a TKO6 win. Pascal won most of the rounds of the fight and he also dropped Jarvis three times, one on the second round with a wild overhand right, again on the fourth round with a body shot and a third time on the sixth and last round of the fight with a barrage of punches. After Jarvis got up from this last fall Pascal punished him until the referee stopped the fight. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 49-44 (x2) and 48-45 for Pascal. |

Veit upsets Calzaghe!
Former WBO super-middleweight champion #10 Joe Calzaghe 29-1-0 (11) suffered a convincing unanimous decision loss against #36 Mario Veit 29-2-1 (15). For the first four rounds the fighters alternated on the control round by round, Calzaghe won the first and fourth rounds and Veit the second and the third ones. But then Veit took a decesive lead on the scorecards winning rounds from five to seven. Specially the seventh round was big for the German that hurt Calzaghe with a strong combination and followed up with an uppercut and a straight right to the head. Calzaghe reacted winning the eighth round with the highlight of a hard straight right and a well timed uppercut to Veit’s chin. Veit regained the control on the ninth stanza in which Calzaghe failed to land any remarkable punches. The last round of the bout was fought on even terms until Calzaghe edged it with a hard uppercut seconds before the end of the fight. The scorecards were 97-93 and 96-94 (x2) for Veit. (Fightnews card: 96-94 Veit). On the co-feature fight Brazilian #42 Mauricio Amaral 24-6-2 (20) defeated Canadian #52 Michael Olajide 27-4-0 (19) by TKO3-on cuts-. Amaral won the first round of the fight against a passive Olajide. On the second round the two fighters traded boms with Amaral a bit better. One of this bombs, a tremendous left, opened a gash above Olajide’s right eyebrow. On the third round again the fighters went to the punch per punch and with a hard right cross Olajide cut Amaral above his right eyebrow, but Amaral answered the fire and with a quick uppercut reopened Olajide’s cut. Olajide’s cut seemed to be worse than Amaral’s one and the referee stopped the actions determinning that Amaral was the winner by TKO3. |

#56 Vincenzo Nardiello 25-4-1 (23) scored a TKO5 –on cuts- victory against now former IBA champion #71 Gennady Golovkin 20-3-1 (17) that was making his first title defense. The first round was even with both fighters showing his power, Nardiello connected a hard cross but Golovkin answered with a hard left to the head. On the second round Nardiello connected a hard right and cut Golovkin on the inside of his right eyebrow, this cut was the key of the fight. On this round both fighters landed big punches hurting his rival but Nardiello edged it with a hard cross late on the round. The third round had again great action, Nardiello started dominating also hurting Golovkin with a solid hook but finally Golovkin rallied to win the stanza. On the fourth round Nardiello landed more punches but Golovkin connected the best punch of the round a hard uppercut to Nardiello’s chin. On the fifth round with Golovkin attacking, Nardiello connected a hard right and reopened the cut and the referee stopped the actions. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 40-37 (x2) and 39-38 for Nardiello. On the co-feature fight #21 Felix “Tito” Trinidad 29-1-0 (24) scored a KO8 win against #34 Christophe Tiozzo 16-6-0 (9). Cloud stops McClelland!
On a fight between two hard hitters #17 Tavoris Cloud 32-0-0 (27) defeated #33 Gerald McClelland 24-2-0 (22) by TKO7. A smashing hook and a hard cross to the head gave Cloud the first round in which McClelland answered but not enough to challenge for the round. The second round didn’t have a lot of action but McClelland edged it with the only remarkable punch of the round a hard uppercut to Cloud’s chin. The third round was fought on even terms with the highlight of a big cross by Cloud. On the fourth round both fighters found the mark for their power blows but with McClelland clearly having the upperhand. McClelland started the fifth round connecting a big uppercut but then Cloud rallied to win the round on a convincing way. On the sixth round McClelland connected an impressive straight right to Cloud’s head to win the round. On the seventh round Cloud connected a hard clean cross to McClelland’s chin and dropped him for a seven count. After McClelland got up Cloud dropped him again with a perfect cross to the chin. McClelland got up again but Cloud connected punch after punch without answer until the referee stopped the fight. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 58-56 (x2) for McClelland and 58-56 for Cloud. On the co-feature fight #59 Adonis Stevenson 24-4-0 (18) scored a slim majority decision win against #66 Darrin Morris 20-7-1 (8). WBF super-middleweight champion #107 Tony Thornton 21-4-1 (13) scored a TKO8 victory against #45 Rodney Toney 24-4-1 (7) to succesfully defend his title for the first time. The fight was very competitive for the first seven rounds and nothing anticipated the violent final. On the eighth round Incredible defeat for Hearns against Piotr Wilczewski! # 42 Thomas Hearns 28-1-1 (25) couldn’t redirect his career and he is now on a three winless streak, this time he loss by TKO6 –on cuts- against Polish #27 Piotr Wilczewski 22-4-2 (6). Early on the fight Hearns dropped Wilczewski with a big combination first to the body and then to the head. The Polish got up at six and managed to take a big right to the chin by Hearns before the bell saved him. Hearns continued easily domianting on the second round in which he almost dropped Wilczewski again with a hard cross on the last seconds of the round. On the third round Wilczewski failed to land a single remarkable punch and Hearns easily won the stanza with the highlight of a big uppercut to the Polish chin. The fourth round was very similar to the previous with Hearns landing the only significant punches of the stanza. On the fifth stanza Wilczewski reacted and went to the punch per punch with Hearns and in spite of receiving hard shots he connected some of his own and with a violent cross he opened a gash outside Hearns’ left eyebrow. On the following round Hearns rocked Wilczewski with a hard combination but the polish connected a defensive jab and reopened the cut and the referee stopped (too quickly) the actions. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 50-44 (x3) for Hearns. |

Always dangerous #31 James Kinchen 26-3-0 (22) scored a slim but important majority decision win against Argentine top fighter #16 Sergio Martinez 32-0-0 (23). With the highlight of a devastating cross to the chin Kinchen easily dominated the first round. On the second round the fight changed dramatically when On the third round Kinchen regained the control of the fight and on the fourth stanza he dropped On rounds five and six With the highlight of a quick hook to the head that stunned his rival Kinchen reapeared on the fight winning the seventh round. On the ninth round Kinchen connected a hard uppercut and hurt On the co-feature fight #48 Miguel Angel Arroyo 21-5-0 (10) defeated #77 Manny Siaca 21-9-0 (16) by TKO5. The fighters split the first two rounds and after and even third round, Arroyo dropped Siacca with a vicious uppercut to the chim on the fourth stanza, Siaca got up at seven and survived the round but in very bad shape. On the following round Arroyo went for the definition and punished Siaca for almost three minutes until the referee stopped the fight. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 39-37 (x2) for Arroyo and 38-38. |

For Brewer this is his second draw on a row and for Oosthuizen continued his big undefeated streak. Oosthuizen dominated the first round outworking Brewer, but the american reacted winning rounds two and three on a convincing way putting the southafrican on trouble with his uppercuts. On the fourth round Oosthuizen was the total dominator of the actions hurting Brewer with a cross and with a hard left-right combination to win the round on big form. Brewer regained the control on rounds five and six to take a lead on the scorecards but Oosthuizen put himself on the fight again edging the seventh round. Brewer won the eighth round on big form hurting Oosthuizen more than a time but the southfrican reacted and won the last two rounds to even the fight again. The scorecards were 95-95 (x3). Chavez Jr. won the first two rounds of the fight on big form putting Catley on trouble with his hard hooks to the body and the head. Catley recated winning the third round but Chavez regained the control of the fight on the fourth stanza. On the fifth round Chavez Jr. conneced a hard straight right that made Catley retreat but then he stayed to passive allowing the british to win the round. On the sixth round with Chavez Jr. attacking Catley connected a hard hook and dropped Mexican that quickly got up but less than a minute later he was dropped again this time by a big cross by Catley. Chavez got up again and survived the rest of the round. On the following round Catley went for the definition but Chavez Jr. hurt him with a straight right and then the Mexican went to the inside punishing Catley with uppercuts and hooks, Catley attemped to reply the fire but was clearly outgunned. Finally after a big hook followed by an uppercut by Chavez that made Catley stumble the referee stopped the actions. Michalczewski dominates and stops Lalonde!
Former WBC super-middleweight champion #7 Darius Michalczewski 30-1-0 (27) scored an overwhelming KO7 victory against former title challenger #20 Don Lalonde 26-4-0 (16). Michalczewski started the fight shaking Lalonde several times on the first round, but the Canadian answered on an equal violent form on the second round with the highlight of a big uppercut that seemed to hurt the Polish. But form the third round to the end all was for Michalczewski, on this third stanza Michalczewski hurt Lalonde with a strong cross, on the following round with a hard hook to the head. On this two rounds the action was great becouse Lalonde attmeped to answer the fire but he was clearly outpunched by the former champ. Michalczewski continued dominating on the fifth round that had a little less action than the previous ones. On the sixth stanza Lalonde connected a hard uppercut that stunned Michalczewski but the Polish connected more punches than him to win the round. On the seventh round Michalczewski punished Lalonde until connecting a big hook to the Canadian chin and dropping him for the ten count. At the time of the stopagge the scorecards were 59-55 (x2) and 58-56 for Michalczewski. On the co-feature fight #56 Howard Eastman 25-3-0 (19) scored a convincing unanimous decision win victory against #68 Dimitri Pirog 20-4-1 (14). Eastman won the early rounds of the fight but Pirog attmeped a reaction on between rounds four and five. The sixth round was big for Easman but again Pirog attemped to rally on rounds seven and eight. On the ninth round Eastman dropped Pirog with a hard hook, Pirog got up but his luck on the fight was done. The last round had intresting back and forth action with Pirog edging the round. Other December Action
#83 George Groves 21-6-2 (15) scored a UD10 win against #138 Omar Sheika 16-7-1 (6). The scorecards were 98-92 (x2) and 99-91 for #96 Antuwn Echols 22-5-1 (9) defeated #101 Jorge Castro by DQ7 due to rabbit punch. For Castro that was leading by 58-54 on all three scorecards it was his third loss on a row. |
