Why can't my closer get any respect?!

So every year, right before the All-Star selections are announced, I usually try to predict who from my team will make it. I'm usually very accurate, so when my closer didn't make it during his rookie year (he was an international FA) I was shocked... he had a sub-1.00 ERA at the time and was among the league leaders in saves. He had equally good season the next two years and didn't make it either of those two times. Meanwhile, some closers were on the team with ERAs of 3.00+. Any idea why this guy can't get an invite?

Is there any evidence that he might be on the Biogenesis Clinic list?

You can manually vote for players to be in the All-Star games. Sometimes the game's decision making in that area is not sufficient.

Because the all-star team ballots are collected by an anti-Nipponic Cubs fan.

At least you don't have to pay his All-Star bonus.

Nothing to do with the subject of the post, but looks like you could actually turn him into an elite starter if you wanted to.

Doubtful with only 2 pitches. I've had some success using my 2 pitch setup man as a spot starter (including him throwing a shutout), but 2 pitch pitchers are a bit of a crap shoot as starters.

Odd that his velocity is that high yet no Fastball in his arsenal

Technically a sinker is a fastball.

I know, but it's just odd not to see "fastball" listed

The velocity is what he would throw if he threw a "fastball".

In RL terms he is probably throwing a viciously hard and nasty sinker.

I just want to know how a Japanese pitcher gets the nickname Swampy.

While born in Japan, Swampy could have moved to Louisiana as a child...

Swampy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm thinking he's an environmental activist! Hopefully a storyline doesn't cause him to retire early to save the whales...

I just spent $85 million extending him for six years. Hopefully he'll make his first All-Star team at some point during that time.

I think that's because "fastball" isn't really used to mean a specific kind of pitch these days (like it was when I was a kid in the '80's, anyway). These days, most pitchers have more than one type of fastball and it's basically come to mean a non-offspeed pitch, especially since hardly anyone throws a straight fastball anymore.
