What did I do wrong?
Hi,
I created a historic MLB league staring in 1901 using real teams and players. The league was set to evolve as the real MLB teams did, but I used fictional players for newly created players. I simmed up until the 1950's on auto-pilot and added some minor leagues. Then I simmed up until the 1977 expansion teams were added, and I moved the Seattle expansion team to Denver and took over that team. Everything was fine, I played out my first season, but once the first season completed, OOTP replaced the Denver team with an new expansion Seattle team and I no longer have a team to manage. What did I do wrong? Is it possible to do what I was trying to do w/o losing my team at the end of the first year? Thanks. Last edited by aknott; 05-26-2013 at 03:54 PM. |

If you have automatic expansion on, i believe the game will look at the teams.csv file in the stats folder and use the teams that are there for 1978. Change all Seattle's to Denver. You may want to change the ballpark unless you wanna play in Seattles's ballparks. And keep in my mind the rockies will be there in 1993. Its probably best to edit the database before you start if you want a modifief historical expansion.

Thank you! Editing (after backing up) teams.csv seems to have me on the right path. Appreciate it!

So does this mean that if I want to contract teams according to history - say going from 16 teams to 12 in 1892 or 12 to 8 in 1900, the game will do this, assuming I set up teams.csv and teamsfranchise.csv to do this? I assume the players just become free agents when teams are contracted, right?

One more follow up.
If I manually work through this until 1901, will I get the option the for real transactions and lineups? Or does that ship sail once you start a league pre-1901? Thanks! |

One other one . . . will the game add a league on autoexpansion?
Can I have an 8 team NL from 1871-1881 and then add an 8 team AA in 1882? Or does it have to be split throughout? Thanks for any insight. |

I did this manually in my game. If you have evolution on and you change the format in 1871 or any season it will revert back to game setup come the 1st day of the offseason. Discovered this on 12 for someone wanting to move the Tigers to Houston and from keeping the Expos from leaving.

Thanks, that's a great help.
Is manually expanding all that much work? Almost seems easier to just do it manually. Set up my teams.csv for 1871 and then do everything else by hand. If I do that with the as played schedules, do you know how the team ID's line up with the team IDs in the game? Since I assume a 16 team league schedule will just use IDs of 1-16, but by that point in the game, I might have team IDs (on the edit league structure screen within the game) of 1-5, 9, 11-12, 13-20 or something like that based on folded franchises and manual expansion. Does team 9 become team 6 in the schedule? Or does team 17 become 6, 18 become 7, 19 becomes 8, 20 becomes 10? Does that make sense? Last edited by Scruff; 06-27-2013 at 05:26 PM. |

Yeah, I think game has importable as played schedules for every year which is great. I can fill in a few extra games for the teams that folded mid-season or just eliminate those teams' games entirely without two much trouble.
I just want to be able to keep franchise histories going also, so nervous about getting to 1953 and having the Braves move to Milwaukee or something and then having the franchises split. I assume just changing city and park names within game seems like the way to go. Sucks that we can't add real life transactions back in at the beginning of the 1900 season. That might kill my trying to do this. |
