Big Injuries - When Does the Talent/Ratings Drop Actually Occur?

I have a young star pitcher who I lost to an 8-9 month injury. He still qualifies for arbitration but I figured I'd try to lock him into a contract before he plays more and his demands, presumably, get larger. Scouting reports just came out and his ratings actually went UP.

Now, I'm tempted to sign him, but I got to thinking "Maybe the injury slam to his ratings comes after he returns to play from his injury. Is this how it works, or would I see his ratings dropping already?

I assumed the drop would be immediate, then show after the next scouting, but I've never read anything which says that explicitly.

I hope that's the case, because, if so, I'm in the clear. Pitcher's ratings have only gone up over the offseason and he has about a month to go before returning.

Some will happen immediately, some over the course of the injury, some atthe end.
Players are not guaranteed to take ratings drops from long term injuries;they may also continue to develop while injured.
I cannot remember if I have seen a Rating Potential increase while a playerwas injured so I am not positive about that.

If anyone's curious, he came back with his talent intact, but suffered a few more minor-ish injuries after that.

His injury rating dipped to "Fragile." Good thing I didn't sign him long term.

In an OOTP13 online league with development tracking (OOTPOU), I watched a guy not have a single drop after an 8-month arm injury.

.....then the exact sim where he came off the DL, drop from 13/20 Stamina to 5/20 Stamina, making him a reliever

That is the only talent he lost.

Ouch! Man, I'll be watching that first sim after people come off the DL.

So, here's the $10,000 question.

Was the rating drop tied directly to his REMOVAL FROM THE DISABLED LIST, or his addition to the active roster? I ask because if there is some logic tied specifically to the DL, then a potential exploit could be used in leagues without minor leagues, which only have reserve rosters. If a player's ratings hit was tied to the DL, then why put players on the DL? Just stash them on the reserve roster until they are ready to return.

If the rating drop is tied to the return to the Active Roster, then there's no issue.
