New Trading System

So, I've had the game every year since they released it on iOS and the past few years I have been able to get teams to part ways with some young prospects who hadn't developed yet but had a 5 star potential. I know the new trading AI is better but I seriously can't grab ANY of these guys.

Anyone have any advice on how to get them or build up in any other way?

I have a fictional league and so far I have finished every year just making playoffs and losing in the first round. So that means, not winning the whole thing and not getting a great draft pick. I seem to be stuck!

So yeah, looking for some advice on how to work some trade this year..

I've had no problem trading for top prospects. I just have to give up a lot to get them.

For example, in my fictional league there is a 19 year-old CF, rated the #2 prospect in baseball. Current rating is 23, potential rating is 80...absolute beast potential, 5-tool player.

I asked the other team what it would take and the only guy they wanted was my 27 year-old SP ace who is rated 72. Not to keen on that as my SP is a sure thing but a fair proposal to be honest.

I decided to offer them up my own 19 year-old CF prospect who's not quite as good as the guy I want from them but still has star potential (potential ability is 74) and is rated the #16 prospect in baseball. Packaged with him, they demanded either that SP I just mentioned (of course not) or one of three prospects all rated between #50 and #60 in the Top 100. Two of them are starters and I have a bunch of young arms so I pulled the trigger on:

19 year-old CF prospect with 74 potential (#16 ranked prospect in baseball) + 24 year-old SP prospect with 59 potential (#54 ranked prospect in baseball) FOR 19 year-old CF prospect with 80 potential (#2 ranked prospect in baseball).

Just for the sake of attempting it, I also proposed a trade involving my starting CF, who is 34 years-old and make a lot of money but it also quite good (65 rating with huge power). When I packaged him with the same 24 year-old SP prospect, the other team would still agree. But the CF I am getting back is not quite major league ready and is intended to replace my veteran CF in a year or two so I felt more comfortable shipping back the prospect CF I had.

I like my chances with my new stud prospect but the trade could easily blow up in my face too. If he suffers a sudden potential drop, if the CF I sent the other way improves a bit more or if that SP prospect is a late bloomer, the pendulum could swing. To me the sign of a good trade engine is that it forces you to make tough choices and in that regard, I find iOOTP13 much improved.

Oh and I feel your pain with the constant first round exits and unable to draft star players but to me that's kind of realistic of how some franchises are in real life...that and it will make your eventual breakthrough all the more awesome. If you think your iOOTP teams failures are frustrating, just imagine being a Cubs fan IRL!

AI seems to value pitching much more than previously. I have made a trade for a pitcher once, but the team I was trading with had like 7 viable starters, so they could afford to. I've had better luck trading decent but not great, pitching prospects to bring in fielders. But yes, the trading AI does seem much tougher. possibly too much so. There's not really much in the way of even trades anymore, they expect to rake you over the coals most of the time unless they're really desperate for something.

Thanks for the replies. About to sit down and give it a couple seasons. I usually just handle trades, draft, and signings, and then sim the games. I burn through seasons quickly. I'll try to go after fielders more so than pitchers even though that is what I really need! I need to find a way to break through ha
