Historical sim?

I've purchased every version since 6.5. I was wondering if there was anything new that would make another purchase worthwhile for historical simming? I don't think I've seen it mentioned specifically anywhere.

Great question Fib I was wondering the same thing. There are some nice little things being updated but I am not sure it makes sense for me to buy this year. The cost is not a big deal for me but I just do not see a whole lot that is new and exciting which would change the game experience for me.

12 or 13 had reserve clause. You get 2012 like the other guy said. If you start a new historical league the managers are accurate for that year. That's all i can think of for now. I started my historical league on 11 at 1871 and am now at 1916 on 13.

It probably depends on how you play the game and what you are looking for. The new playoff screens look nice to me, and the facegen changes where uniforms will change based on the year.

I think a lot of the little things could help too such as not interested in player x when trading, or being able to set league settings for reliever usage. To me those little things add up and make for a better overall experience regardless of the type of league I'm playing.

I think it depends on what you are looking for though and whether that's enough for you. I'm just curious, but what kind of historical features do you feel are lacking and would like to see?

I've made this suggestion many times before, but gave up several iterations ago because of the lack of interest it generated. I don't want to see historical player trades artificially made the same day they happened IRL. I do want to see players generally end up on the same teams they played for IRL. I think the trade engine in historical leagues should have the option for teams to favor players that played for them IRL. There are several ways to go about achieving this, I don't know how the trade engine works, but in 1919 the Red Sox should add extra value to Babe Ruth. Between 1919 and 1920, (say at the Winter meetings), the Red Sox no longer add that weight, but the Yankees do. The Yankees will now go more aggressively after Ruth. There is nothing that says the Yankees get Ruth in 1920. (The Red Sox may hold on to him and trade him to the Tigers in 1925.) It's just more likely Ruth will end up as a Yankee. The amount of the weight could be determined by the human player.

I'd also like to see the best players IRL be the best players in OOTP. They can't really improve on their RL accomplishments, they can only play worse. Perhaps RL HOF players shouldn't have as many declines in abilities as other players, using the development engine. But I don't like artificially recalculating their abilities every 3 or 5 years either, which also effects all players. I want to see an average player occasionally achieve greatness or occasionally never develop into a regular player. I want to see a scrub occasionally develop into a daily player - and rarely, into a great player.

I'd also like to see historical storylines. For instance, a story could be generated in 1943 when the first player to hit 2 home runs in the same game did so after learning that his brother was killed in France. I certainly don't want to hear about a player in 1903 breaking his leg exiting a plane.

Hopefully OOTP will do a road to release focused on historical simming in OOTP14.

This doesn't happen. Does it? i am at 1916 not 1961 but When i did a 90's sim the Marlins got a generic AAA and I added AA that year so they would have Kane County.

He's saying he wants it, not that it's in there.

Ok the OP was asking what new features since V5 not asking people what they wanted. mgom takes the road less traveled in threads.

I think the OP said they bought every version since 6.5 and was asking what's new for a reason to buy it. I asked what types of features he was looking for, and mgom gave a couple.

It is my understanding that the game still doesnt do 19th century transactions automatically. Not complaining just want to know so I will know if I should keep working on my own 19th century transaction spreadsheet.

I can also say that Teams don't set their opening day rosters before the end of Spring Training like they do in Real Life and that's their no Minor League Contract with a MLB team.
