expansion realignment question

I have not done much if any expansion/realignment over the years, and have just decided to shift an NL team to the AL and bring in a new NL team. I thought i remember a few weeks ago about someone who moved a team to other league and had to use a "custom" schedule? Can i not just make my changes, and have the game draw me up a new schedule?
I expect the game should be able to handle such a thing just fine as it seems like a basic function, I just don't use it, and couldn't find that thread.

thanks guys.

the game forces you to generate a new schedule any time you change the structure of the league. however, i dont have an experience with custom schedules. also, if you try and generate a new schedule, and gives you some sort of error message for odd number of leagues, just generate it from the edit league structure screen.

As long as you have an even number of teams in each league, OOTP will generate a schedule.

If you move 1 team to AL, that would equal 15 and won't work. You'd need a custom schedule.

Schedules aren't a "basic" function per se, they are very complex to generate.

you can generate a schedule for an odd numbered league. you just have to do the work around that i mentioned, or use a custom schedule. i have odd numbered leagues in my universe.

I realize they would be complex to do, i meant basic in the context of being a feature that you would assume is in the product. If you can add 1 team, or 11 teams, you would think the other half of the process is there. Not much point in allowing adding an odd number if it wont allow you to scheduled games.
As I said, I don't do it often.
thanks.

If you click "generate schedule" after adjusting the league structure, OOTP will generate a schedule.

Now, with two 15-team leagues and no interleague play, there will be 3-4 day breaks for each team in the schedule, as not all teams can have a series at the same time.

With inter-league play "on", there will be many interleague series, and they will occur throughout the season, as opposed to the actual modern MLB setup where those series are concentrated.

So, custom schedules are absolutely necessary, but I've found they can be more balanced than the ones generated by OOTP.

Which is exactly what I said - you need a custom schedule.
