Historical Contracts/Free Agents

Total OOTP 12 newbie here. Just upgraded from 6.5.

Some questions after my first historical season. For reference I have the game auto importing rookies and handling the updating of financials/movement/expansion but not doing historical transactions/lineups. I also have OOTP handling the player development rather than re-do it each year based on historical stats. I started in 1901.

1. It seems I don't understand free agency. There are several players who should have become free agents who just didn't. Their contract says expires after 1901, not eligible for arbitration, and becomes free agent after expires. Yet here it is 1902 and they are still on my roster. Infact this is most of my roster. What am I missing here?

2. When do players in these historical plays become free agents? It seems I completely missed it/was never prompted that free agency has begun.

Help would be much appreciated. Thanks from an OOTP 12 newbie.

do you have historical transactions on? or reserve clause on? I'm not to sure on how free agency would work since there wasn't such a thing back then in rela life so not sure how the game would handle it.

Unless you have free agency turned on it there would be nothing to inform you of so i'd double check your settings then come back if your still having problems and someone will help you out, at some point at least

Historical transactions are definately off. I'm not sure on reserve clause. Will have to look tomorrow. I also didn't know you had to turn free agency on. Where does one do that? What is reserve clause?

Also there were definately free agents during my play(minor league guys it looks like, the major league guys who were set to expire didn't become free agents) as well as waivers/trades/rookie draft/rule 5 draft. Just didn't seem to be a free agency period for major league guys that I could tell.

The reserve clause rule may have been enabled by default because of your start year. Check on the League Setup: Financials tab. The reserve clause would disable free agency. Players are tied to the team that owns their rights until they are traded or released under this set of rules.

Cool that would make sense. Does this eventually get auto disabled when it would have IRL? If so do you know what year this would be in the game? Thanks again guys.

And just to make sure if the reserve clause is on then I never need to re-negotiate with my players? They automatically get new contracts until traded/cut?

EDIT: One more thing. It seems odd to have minor league free agency and not major league. Is there a way to turn the reserve clause on in the minor leagues too?

Reserve clause is most definitely on. Some questions that I would love to have answered if anyone would be so kind.

1. Why do I still have minor league free agents with this selected?

2. Will the major league guys EVER become free agents with this rule in effect?

3. Will the game auto drop reserve clause at the appropriate time when it should be dropped. When does this happen. FWIW I am looking at a league with Automatic Expansion turned on. Not sure if that effects anything.

4. If I turn the reserve clause off will I see free agency? Will there be arbitration?
