Team Names?
Alright, so I literally just purchased this game, went to start a new season and all of the team names are random. Am I missing something here or does OOTB not have the actual team names eventhough they have the actual players?

I guess you want to play with the 2011 rooster? If so you must start your game by loading the quickstart (major.quick) in the OOTP menu.

You can also try doing a single season replay or career play starting in 1997 or 2003 if you want to. Also 12 doesn't have a manual so check out the 1 from 11 . only a few differences. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/documentation/ootp11/ http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/documentation/ootp11/index.php?page=quick_starts |

Thanks to you both. I was a long time Baseball Mogul player, but recently purchased a Mac. So here is to hoping that OOTP and I agree. So far, WAY! more intricate than Baseball Mogul, not sure how I feel now, but given a few days I may really enjoy it.

I'm also having the same problem. Both Quickstart game and New ML game leads to random team names. Roster is accurate though. I'm also on a Mac, and had purchased the game via the Mac App Store.

the 2011 MLB quickstart is located on the main loading page. I don't know how to access it from the in game leagues menu. I am on 11 not 12

Frustrated
This game is frustrating me to no end. It is way too complex and it takes almost all of the fun out of it. Setting it up takes way too long and it is just not very user friendly. Maybe it is because I have played baseball mogul for about 4-5 years, but I think that the ease of control in that game is far superior to the overly complex workings in OOTB thus far. I can see why this game is so enjoyable if you know the system well, but it literally takes way too long to get much accomplished. I wish that there was a way to get a refund. I can't seem to get the team names to appear correctly, there are 50000000 links all over the place and you have to stand vigil when simming which I hate. Any pointers from anyone on how not to want to stop playing this game immediately?

Huh? Where do I start? Non of these controls look simple. I'm frustarated. That was my inital reaction, but the thing with games or any software for that matter, if you're used to one type of layout and interface, moving to something new takes time to adjust. My suggestion is to start with a small fictional league, maybe 10 or 12 teams, and just explore and play around with the game. Familiarity is bred from using something. Sure, OOTP seems overwhelming at first, but once you start spending some time playing with it, you can quickly become hooked. I realize this level of complexity isn't for everyone, and I respect that, but I urge you to give it a try for a couple weeks. If you set up a small league to start with, making mistakes as you go won't really be problem as this would be considered a learning experience. Just keep trying the different settings and play around with the "50000000 links all over the place". You'll find they are actually quite useful. Also, once you get comfortable, and have certain pages/reports you look at a lot, you can bookmark them for ease of access. G/L, and don't hesitate to ask questions here on the forums. There is an endless well of knowledge here and a lot of very helpful people around. |

I am not laughing at you, I am laughing with you as this was my intial feelings when I purchased my 1st OOTP game. 4-5 years back. Now I don't suggest by any means that I am computor savy, so that made it probably even more intimidating then it is for you. But here are a couple of suggestions.1) Good to the mods section, there are tons of great ones that will improve you experience, and lots of helpful folks and threads to get them right. 2) Practise, practise, practise.. what I mean, don't expect the 1st league you set up will be the one that you play for a long time. In fact the 1st time I played, I picked a team that I didn't really know and felt if i screwed up, I would not feel guilty... and ran a couple of seasons to get used to the features, timing of what needs to happen etc. After running a couple of seasons, I felt I was ready to take on my team... or at least I thought so. Good luck, and have fun.... I know I am enjoying it, even when my #$%^ing team goes 60-102 ....

Blue hit it on the nose
![]() I played Mogul also, but I am a High Heat convert. When I bought 11 in July of 2010, I was so frustrated until about November of 2010. this game takes time and I am still learning misc things about the game. Just yesterday I learned something new about putting retired players into any uniform you wanted to. I played OOTP 6.5 a few yrs ago and quit after a few weeks because it was complicated and went back to HH 2k3. Tell me what are you exactly wanting to do and what are you either not understanding how to do? or trying and failing to do? We covered the 2011 quickstart already were you able to get that to work? |

So I still cannot figure out how to get the game to start with the actual team names. Any other suggestions?

Either method will create a league with the real team names. Creating a new Major League will give you the complete minor league setup. Follow the advise of the other posters. Start with a small custom league to learn the ins and outs. As one poster said, any migration to new software seems difficult until you learn what does what.

Also if you want real teams but fictional players choose custom game and create a MAL league. if you downloaded & INSTALLED the all in one you will have accurate logos & uniforms from ML down to GCL AZL

One more note if this is the case. You must get all patches from the App Store as well. The one's available here will NOT work. Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion with real team names and patches. Last edited by Bigrod; 09-04-2011 at 12:29 AM. |

So, the mac app store product is inferior for the team names and for the up to 2 week delays on making patches available. This is ridiculous. Thanks for the info. |

Although your issues might not entirely be the fault of Apple, I am always puzzled by anyone who buys a Mac and tries to use it to play computer games. The support from developers is rarely timely or any good, and then you face restrictions and the strong-arm tactics of Apple when it comes to marketing and distribution. This is why I have not spent a dime on an Apple product in my life, and I have been using personal computers since 1984. |
