As Markus explained in his first post, the product is hardly late. In you can take an average of the last three years and if it truly does come out in May then you could consider the product to be early.

As for the update, Markus, thanks. I've said my piece already, but I hope things go well for OOTPD and v.12.

From what ive seen the game has always been released on time. When Markus feels the game is ready a release date is announced. I dont know where people get an opening date release. Can anyone post a link where Markus announced a release date for opening day this yeat or any year? Its always been the game will be released when its ready. But do you not think Markus would not like to release it on opening day or sooner if he could?
I dont see the need to release a roster expansion pack. Whats the point? Other than to release something just to release it. You can download rostetd or edit your own already. Id rather the time be spent improving the game or adding features. Finally i dont get the point of having to have the game on opening day. Frankly it doesnt matter what season it is if your playing fictional, historical, or in an online league. I dont stop playing the game cause the real baseball season is over. I mean isnt that the fun of ootp? That you can make it baseball season any time you want. But i do understand if your buying the game for the 1st time how anxious you might be. All i can say is try to be patient. Its well worth the wait. Last edited by BaseballMan; 04-05-2011 at 08:03 AM. |

Many associates the fun of playing a new version with the start of a new MLB season and believe that it would increase the sales if it is out on opening day. Can't really argue that point but by how many copies no one really knows. It doesn't bother me as much now with OOTP11 being so complete and playing it just about every day since it's release. |

Meh...50 games, 150 games, or released during the offseason. It doesn't matter to me. My enjoyment of baseball doesn't wane based on the season. As someone who has played since OOTP2, I have enjoyed every iteration of OOTP regardless of when it's released. So as long as it's tested and stable, I'll enjoy this one just as much.

I must have missed the newsletter or post that listed opening day as the release date.

Yeah it's not "late" by their standards..but by the standards of every other MLB game maker, it's late. Mogul, The Show, 2K.....all out during ST. So "late" is defined by each person....to me, this game is chronically late. EDITED ...it's late if it's past opening day. Last edited by Goodsox; 04-05-2011 at 11:40 AM. |

I believe, however, that those of us who purchase the game - and HAVE purchased it for years on end accepting whatever date it was released - have a valid point as well. In addition, since the product has been successful enough to keep Markus in business for 12 years, it is hard to argue that his lack of an opening day release date has harmed him significantly. As long as this is still a democracy, the majority decides the failure or success of a product, and in this case if the majority is ok with the way OOTP has been released - to the point of buying it repeatedly - then I suspect you are in a minority of those who take a differing viewpoint. If your intention is to convince us you are right, I would offer to you that the effort is folly. Last edited by Goodsox; 04-05-2011 at 11:40 AM. |

I probably play OOTP more in the winter, actually.
Also, I play fictional, and usually finish my season before cutting over to a new release (so I get the added benefit of a patch or two by the time I switch). This is a long winded way of saying I couldn't care less what the actual release date is, as long as Markus delivers in a reasonable time frame, according to what he's promised. |

O.k., well Mogul has hardly any true feature upgrades year to year while MLB 2k11 and The Show are done by dev groups with 100+ employees and millions in dev budget. Even then (especially with 2K) the games have minimal upgrades and the same bugs that existed for several versions. It is not written in stone that any baseball product MUST be available Opening Day or before. Baseball products in the past have been released after Opening Day, at the All-Star Break and even in the Fall when the playoffs start. What makes OOTP different is the fact that the developer releases when the game is done and he is comfortable that it is a bug free as possible. I'm o.k. with that. I like to buy product that is done right- not rushed out the door to make some "date" that honestly doesn't matter. If you are so impatient, go play Mogul or whatever and complain about the lack of features and bugs in comparision to OOTP. No one has a gun to your head to buy this- so stop with the whining and move on. Last edited by Goodsox; 04-05-2011 at 12:11 PM. |

Just a technical question : How many infractions someone need before getting a temporary suspension or a permanent ban?

thoughts from a new user
I just stumbled upon OOTP a few weeks ago and got excited because I used to love EHM and love realistic sim games. At first I found it frustrating that there was no real release date as I was really anticipating playing the game. BUt someone here pointed out you can play OOTP 8 for free and thats been keeping me busy. Also most people here say it's worth the wait so i've thrown myself into version 8 and have been enjoying it. It's a great place to start and learn the system I think.
Anyway I'm happy to wait. |

Not to sound like a brown noser, but it's frustrating to me when I read that Markus still struggles to hire developers. How are so many people missing out on this game after so many years?
I know I might take a beating for this, but it seems like people are so lazy nowadays that they're afraid of OOTP. Why does a game like Mogul sell so many copies? It's such a dumbed down version of baseball. How can you be a true fan of the game and simply not care about waivers/rule 5 drafts/options..etc..etc...? I guess in the end we actually benefit from OOTP still being relatively small, because we still have the actual developer commenting on these boards. I'm also shocked when I read the disrespectful posts people put on here even after they realize the developer DOES read them. Reading some of these rants just shows me how much of a pain it must be to run a small business without losing your temper and unleashing a swear-filled tirade response. |
