Let's talk realistic trade options this off-season and your favorite teams
As a Cardinals fan, I have sat and watched and listened to all the trade ideas for other teams to try to land Colby Rasmus.
Our star studed, 5 tool centerfielder that is not only young, but under team control for the next 4 seasons. He shows constant improvement and appears to be the real deal long term in centerfield and a truly talented left handed bat. Personally, I think it would be stupid for the Cardinals to trade him. But White Sox and Braves fans want a left handed bat and a capable centerfielder on opening day in 2011. A lot of talk came out about Carlos Quentin to the Cardinals as part of a package for Rasmus. Quentin isn't a bad option, as a throw in package for Rasmus. But he costs more, is closer to free agency, is about a third the player Rasmus is. The Braves have the prospects I would want for Rasmus. While the White Sox have one player I would be interested in targeting as part of a deal for Rasmus. However, he wouldn't be all that I wanted. That man is Gordon Beckman. He has similar contract status, and can play second and third base, two positions that lack serious depth for the Cardinals. He would need to be the center of any deal for Rasmus if I was Moz and I was going with the White Sox in a deal. And I would still expect either some pitching or Carlos in the outfield to complete the deal. And even then, I still don't know that I would trade my super talented young outfielder. White Sox fans will likely laugh at this, but I certainly wouldn't be looking to trade Rasmus, and if I were to consider moving him, this is what it would take. As for the Braves, you have several prospects that I would like, but I would need likely 3 prospects. A top 5, a top 10, and a top 30 spec or current replacement outfielder not named McClouth in a deal for Rasmus. Speaking of other potential trade ideas. Kyle Lohse is certainly up for grabs from anyone. If Rasmus is kept, I certainly would love to move him for someone like Chone Figgins. We would likely need to give up more to get Figgins over just Lohse, but that would be a start for me, especially when their contracts are compared, Figgins is owed a lot more money than Lohse. I don't see the Cardinals making any other moves or even listening to any other ideas unless they are small potato trades. And as usual, I would always ask for another pitching arm prospect for any deal I made...as a good use of habit What about your team? What deal would you love to see your team make this off-season? If any deals at all. Let's keep it realistic, and try to avoid the typical over evaluation of our favorite players. Trades don't have to be made either, but let's try to remember what leverage exists in trades in the big leagues. |

The Cardinals would be crazy to deal Rasmus. Which is why I hope they do so.
![]() The Reds need to pick up a good bat for LF. I'm not sure who the answer is but they certainly have a surplus of pitching to deal and several 4th outfielder types to round out a trade. I would have named David Dejesus as a good fit but KC already dealt him. |

There have already been rumors that the Sox are listening to offers on Beckham, however. That being said, I think Beckham and Quentin would be an awfully high price for Rasmus. |

Quentin needs to go. He had 1 good year. The stock is still fairly high on him so I say deal him. Beckham might still have hope but we haven't been very good at developing our own players.

There were rumors about Grienke moving on to the Twins. The problem is the Twins minor league system isnt very strong right now so I have no idea what they could give up to get an ace that is very young.
Delmon Young + a top prospect were my thoughts. However that would solve one problem and create another. Right handed hitters is another problem they have. |

Sounds like LaRussa and Rasmus arent a good fit for each other. The bad part about this for the Cards is this rumor is out there so teams arent going to give up the house for Rasmus.

I would love to see the A's get Rasmus but who do you send? They've got pitching depth and room to deal from there but the Cards don't need pitching. They also don't need any of our mediocre outfielders. They'd need to get a third team involved.
Maybe Billy Beane can get the White Sox to give them Beckham. He's worked his magic with Kenny Williams before. ![]() Of course, then maybe I'd want the A's to keep Beckham... |

I think Ozzie gets envious of the Twins at times when they can score 4 runs without a ball leaving the infield

Seriously, this is the realistic trades thread. Rajai Davis would be a nice fit for the White Sox, I think. Not enough for Beckham straight up, but it would be a start.

Well thats not a Kenny Williams guy. We can send Thome back to them for Beckham or even Kubel.

Gabe Gross 1
Rajai Davis 5 Ryan Sweeney 1 Coco Crisp 8 Eric Patterson 4 Matt Carson 4 Chris Carter 3 Conor Jackson 1 Jeremy Hermida 1 Travis Buck 1 Matt Watson 1 30 total. That is pretty sad for an entire outfield. (I'm aware that I could have included Jack Cust's 13, but really, he's not an OF. He really should not own a baseball glove.) |

Cardinals don't appear interested in moving him at all. And the issue of TLR and Rasmus has pretty obviously been blown out of proportion. It's no different then Rolen, Edmonds and Ozzie having issues with him. It can be handled internally, I don't see why it should effect his value. And the fact that the Cardinals don't need to trade him, and doubtful they will. |

By that, I mean I would rather have Colby over Beckham and Quentin |
