Anyone see these game bugs?
Have anyone else seen these issues using OOTP11 version 11.2.18 (on XP OS PC)?
1. Runtime error when loading a HTML style page within the game: A runtime error I have never seen in OOTP before. This occurred when I clicked the "BNN Home Page" within the game, and after clicking 'OK' the game closed. I reloaded the game (losing all recent sim info) and repeated the same steps and the runtime error did not occur. Here is the error message: ![]() 2. Past transactions disappearing: This one is less severe, but something that I think has been in the game for several versions now. After simming through the World Series the previous years transactions history disappears, and only the current month of transactions is displayed. The league settings are set to keep 2 years worth of transactions.

The USBLM has recently converted AND upgraded to the most current patch which is now 11.2.23 i believe and this combination appears to be deadly for some of our owners, which along with having to send the accountsdata_gm file or whatever it is, has been a major PITA. why not include that file in the league files? makes no sense
anyways, back to my point, i've got some owners who were able to download and export just fine but another few owners are getting the runtime error and the game craps out at 66% completion. Trying desperately to save the league which is heading into 2014 but its looking more and more like a fresh restart is in order. Shouldn't be this difficult to convert leagues to a newer rendition of OOTP Snake

Okay, we have spent a lot of time working on this problem today. Has anyone had this issue running anything aside from XP. That is the one commonality we have found thus far.

You don't know the history between Gary and I. I never said he was not nice SteveP. He was just supposed trying resolving my runtime error problem 2 weeks ago.
However, there is a LOT of customers having this issue. What are you waiting for fixing it once and for all ??? |

![]() I remember your ticket was for v10 and not v11 and it was not resolvable. If you also tried creating a massive league in v11 it will have the same problem (as I reported to you in that ticket). If this is not related to a massive league size (you had over 1100 teams in 1 league as I recall), then could you let me know what exactly is happening? In fact, you should open up a new ticket if it's something new that's causing crashes. As I said, if it's only happening in a huge league then there's nothing I can do about this. If that's the case, then I'm very sorry but Markus didn't make any fixes in v11 for leagues this size.

BTW, the few run-time errors I've seen recently don't seem to be related (except for the owners in this online league). Having the same error message and especially a generic one like "runtime error" doesn't imply any connection between them.

Killebrew: I just checked your ticket and in your last reply to Steve you said you hadn't been able to reproduce the error. Any update on this?

Are you the one that opened up a ticket? If so, check it out and get back to me on it.

No worries Gary,
I purchased version 11 and yes, it's the same league. Do you think that Markus will be working on this problem for version 12 ? |

. I don't play the game solo though so I would have only accessed the game a few times since posting the screen shot and putting the support tickets in. For the sake of discovering what caused my particular runtime error I do hope I see it again in order to gather some more ideas on exactly what triggered it. Perhaps I will even try some debug modes if they are available to regular users. BTW, the MS C++ runtime error is a generic error so I realize other users with the same runtime error message might have a different issue, but it does appear like there are some basic game stability issues in here. Honestly, I have never done as much tech support as an online league commish as I have done since we began patching OOTP11 (we are on version 11.2.18). By the 'tech support' term I mean walking owners through workarounds to various errors they are getting, and trying to solve the issues without forcing an uninstall/reinstall of OOTP11, and using the reinstall option as a last resort. These are all vet owners and veteran online league commishes who have gone through many versions of OOTP, so I am confident they are not causing their own errors due to unfamiliarity with the game or processes involved. It's a serious challenge supporting such a complex game on so many systems and so many web browser versions. In an effort to be of some help I will definitely follow up on my tickets when I personally see something else that might be useful to troubleshoot the issue or issues. Also... For my issue number 2 - I received a response to that ticket. It's the game design, not a bug, so the onus is on users to get the league transactions page history design of the game changed in future versions of OOTP. That way, when the user selects 'keep 2 years of transactions' the game will show more than just a few weeks of league transactions at the end of the season !

Again...
1. Runtime error when loading a HTML style page within the game: ![]() This is now a recurring error. For my particular runtime error crash the trigger appears to be opening an HTML page from within the game. The worst thing about this error is that it does not happen every time I access an HTML page within the game. I have retraced the steps to a crash without the game crashing the 2nd time through, which is also bad since it means the crash is not related to a specific HTML page or related to going to the HTML from a specific game screen. |

There are some debug mode settings in the game - anyone ever tried using these? I would assume that would allow us to view a log of game processes, and might provide the crash details since the generic MS runtime error is not.

I still get them about 40% of the time that I load up my online league. I just keep try trying again and eventually it works but it's super annoying for sure. Customer service was great trying to figure out the problem but to no avail.

This messages is usually caused by an unhandled exception in the code. The best way to help the devs to find these problems is to provide the devs with a dump or minidump file.
This file is normally not generated automatically. To create one, you can do the following: - First, you need to be able to repro the issue. - Google for 'WinDbg' and find the download on Microsoft's site & install it. - WinDbg comes with a vbscript that enables it to montior a running program and will generate dump files when exceptions occur. - The script is called 'adplus.vbs' (google it) - I'm not at home but you should be able to use a command line similar to the following to run it. Note that the script (monitoring) must be started before the error happens. From a cmd prompt: cscript "%ProgramFiles%\Debugging Tools for Windows (x86)\adplus.vbs" crash -pn "ootp.exe" -quiet -o "c:\temp\crash" - You probably want to create the output directory first (c:\temp\crash). - Now reproduce the crash. - Every time an exception occurs in ootp.exe a new dump file will be created. - When you are done, zip up the output and send it to support. The devs should have symbol files to cross-ref against he dumps and find the issue. Having a dump that exhibits the crash should make finding the bug easier than non-crashes. HTH |
