Can't we have this guy instead? Sam Demel Stats, Bio, Photos, Highlights | Sacramento River Cats Stats

Or do we have to keep going with Bowers/Rodriguez/Ross?

I don't think I make the trade either. I've always liked Conor Jackson, but he isn't going to play 1st, because he's basically a Barton clone. That leaves LF, which we sorely need some pop. If he can go back to his 2006-2008, its a decent trade.

IF.

Even if he does the 300/350/450 we'll still need more power from somewhere. This doesn't seem to address any real problem. Then again, I'd rather have him on the roster than Patterson.

I'm assuming we'll move Carson back down to make room for Jackson.

I don't mind the deal, as he's a right-handed hitter who hits lefties well. The A's as a team are putrid against lefties this year, so he basically becomes the left fielder or DH vs. LHP. I'm OK with that. Before that role was Jake Fox, so it's a small upgrade.

Do you not remember the 90's before we got Beane? They were not pretty.

1993 AL West 7th 68 94 .420
1994 AL West 2nd 51 63 .447
1995 AL West 4th 67 77 .465
1996 AL West 3rd 78 84 .481
1997 AL West 4th 65 97 .401

Beane takes over at the end of 1997 season.

1998 AL West 4th 74 88 .457 Ben Grieve (ROY)
1999 AL West 2nd 87 75 .537
2000 AL West 1st 91 70 .565 Lost ALDS to New York Yankees, 2-3. Jason Giambi (MVP)
2001 AL West 2nd 102 60 .630 Lost ALDS to New York Yankees, 2-3.
2002 AL West 1st 103 59 .636 Lost ALDS to Minnesota Twins, 2-3. Miguel Tejada (MVP) Barry Zito (CYA)
2003 AL West 1st 96 66 .593 Lost ALDS to Boston Red Sox, 2-3.
2004 AL West 2nd 91 71 .562 Bobby Crosby (ROY)
2005 AL West 2nd 88 74 .543 Huston Street (ROY)
2006 AL West 1st 93 69 .574 Won ALDS vs. Minnesota Twins, 3-0. Lost ALCS vs. Detroit Tigers, 0-4.
2007 AL West 3rd 76 86 .469
2008 AL West 3rd 75 86 .466
2009 AL West 4th 75 87 .463 Andrew Bailey (ROY)

Aside from his first season and the last three seasons when we've set record after record for the DL we've been very competitive under him.

Yeah, really, do we want to go back to the Jerry Browne/Mike Aldrete/Allen Battle/Mike Oquist days? Really?

So Bob Geren says Jackson is going to be the everyday left fielder. That's OK until Coco Crisp comes back. Then you'll have to figure, we'll have five guys for four spots each day. (Sweeney, Davis, Crisp, Cust, Jackson) Eric Patterson would have to be the one to finally be DFA'd at that point.

We'll see how that goes. Crisp has only played two games this season so he could end up right back on the DL again.

Actually do you notice how whenever a transaction is made, the guy giving all the quotes is David Forst? We never even hear from Beane. It's clear who is really running this team while Beane is off watching soccer.
