Mystery Injury

I am playing a season in 1902, in which everything was fine with Jimmy Barrett, my lead off hitter and one of my best players. I exit out of the game and the next morning open it up and I notice he is out for three weeks with a strained medial collateral ligament. I checked the previous day's box score in case I missed something. No mention of any injury. What happened? Was he washing his truck after the game (like Jeff Kent)? No, they didn't have trucks in 1902. Did he slip on the soap in the shower?

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced of these "mystery injuries". Is it a bug or is it something I should accept as part of the game that any manager has to deal with?

I've noticed this before but not in 5.10, although I haven't played much recently.

With 5.10, I seem to see three to five players each season going down with "mystery injuries"--no listing in the injury reports or in box scores.

I'm not at all sure here, but oe of two things must be happening.

(1) Player is injured in the game but not added to the injury list. This might be becasue the order in which things get done in the coding as a game is completed might "miss" the routine that record the injury in the boxscore or injury listing. If this is the case, Markus should be able to find it by tracing all the possibilities as a game is completed.

(2) In this case, Markus may ahave actually included "of field" injuries, but hasn't yet added all the code to capture them. If this is what's happening, thn I'm sure it will be added going forward.

In my case, It was not the first option because I played the game manually and Barrett was not injured in the game. This means that there are indeed off-field, away from the ballpark injuries in the game.....or it could just be a bug.

Anyway, today I got an email from my doctor that the injury was more serious than he originally thought and he is going to be out an additional 7 days. I wish I could email him back. Or fire the doctor....there's a new feature that the game should have. I seem to get this message a lot.

Well, I just a had a player go down today with a Mystery Injury for 7 weeks--a Cold!!! Don't think this was an in-game injury that wasn't "captured", or was it...? Could the game have been played in Toronto and the player caught the mystery injury for which the AI had no recognition except to call it a Cold? It's SARS!!!! The game is self-updating apparently .

In all seriousness, a 100% disabling 7 week Cold? I checked the injury file and there is no possibilty of a 100% disabling 7 week Cold--it's only 5% for 2 to 5 days. So there must be something else happening than an "uncaptured" injury.

Also saw another player today go down with a mystery injury-a torn hamstring for 6 weeks.

When you open the player up, does it say what the injury is?

We've seen this in our online league, with 5.1.

Players just showing up as injured when there's no indication they were injured in the box scores.

I lost my ace pitcher to a career ending blister that never made it into the logs or news.

Keep in mind with some of the odd injuries that if you (or your league commish for an online league) is using an edited injury.txt file that you may see some oddities. (I had a player overcome by the vapors in one of my leagues; while one of my rivals had a guy stabbed by a stalker. The stabbing victim was out 3 days while my guy was out 3 weeks... must be some strong vapors )

I don't think we're using an edited injuries file. Though now I kind of wish we were...

Hahahahahahaha! The vapors!

Stuck in traffic - out one day
Spontaneous combustion - career over
The bends - not sure how long
Irritated old gunshot wound (like the Natural) - career over

An owner in my league was hit with the mystery injury too - Nolan Ryan is out for the season, and it is only 1 day old.

I am contemplating manually editing the injury away.

Should I assume this is a 'bug' and he was never really injured, or should I assume, for whatever reason, the injury was never reported.

It was definitely an off the field injury as he hadn't pitched an inning yet.

This is all so wierd. I had a player in my solo league that got injured outside the game (P Scot Shields) but I got email from the team doctor, something to the effect of 'he worked out too hard' so at least I knew what had happened. Maybe you guys have a setting so you didn't get that email? Or maybe it's just wierd?
