Training Catcher to play 2B

ANyone ever have any luck moving a catcher to 2B?

He has IF ratings of 7-4-6-1; Range, Error, Arm, Double Play.

I've played him 48 games in single A and he hasn't improved his Fielding rating. .927 FA with 17 Errors.

That double play rating might not help. My ML 2B have 31 in similar games.

I figured Biggio made the move, so maybe this guy could.

The only success I have ever had with moving catchers was to 1B.

I've gotten a C to move to LF, RF, 1B, and 3B. They can move if they have the ratings.

Somewhere someone has posted up the absolute minimums for each position. I doubt any would meet those minimums for the middle infield, and a rarity to meet them anywhere but 1B.

In an online league I tried to move a 2B to SS due to an injury. After 18 errors and a fielding% below 0.900 I had to give up his bat and put in a bad hitter just for defense.

I have had similar successes but in same attempts it didnt take, expecially if they had really bad ratings from the get go at new position.

Thanks everyone. I've moved him back to catcher. He just wasn't making any real progress.

The AI drafted a lot of catchers for me in the late rounds. I have had success moving them to 1st and 3rd, but no dice on this guy at 2nd. Oh well.

This seems like a strange result to me, RchW. I would think that any player with the ability to play 2B professionally would handle himself better than that at SS. I know short is considered the more demanding position, but I bet if you asked 20 major league second basemen if they'd ever played some shortstop, they'd tell you they had, possibly even as recently in college or in the low minors. Wouldn't you think a 2B would handle better than 9 of 10 chances cleanly at SS?

Of course, if the guy fielded .910 at second, then I retract my statement.

1 at DP turn? That guy should definitely not play 2B. Or SS. He might be ok at 3B, but his arm is a little weak for that.
