I've lost track of the "variables"
I've lost track of what has happened between my last opening of the game, and my current one . . . but, just now, I again had to enter my license. As I've mentioned before, it's no big deal when that's all I have to do. But, it does seem like something that should stop happening.

You will still be asked to re-enter your license when your system is updated. Now the dialog is working correctly this is not the same big issue it used to be. If however you are getting this requested when you should not, PM me BEFORE you re-enter your license so I can run some trace to find why the system asked you to re-enter it.

If the patch was intended to fix the problem noted in the original post, then it isn't working. At least not for me. I have to re-enter the license # each time I restart my computer. Which is how it was pre-patch.

![]() If you want to test this out to make sure its the same issue, PM me when you next see the dialog. If not, you can wait for the next installment and see if it fixes your issue. This is the first time we have used this technology on such a large number of Apple Macs and with the massive variance in peoples setups it not surprising there is tuning issues. I am resolving them as fast as I can. Please do bare with me. I think doing this on windows might cause me to be commited under the mental health act

I just wanted to report in that since implementing the pre-patch fix for this I haven't seen the dreaded "YLINLV" message. I started the game up at various times over the weekend (including after my laptop was sleeping and after a restart) and so far I'm golden. Best wishes to those who haven't been quite so lucky.
And thanks again to pisdpaul and the rest of the gang for working so hard on this.

Has the second patch been released yet, or the problem found? I am still having this issue, even after applying the first patch. This is extremely frustrating, and precisely why I hate DRM like this...it always seems to have issues!!!

The patch is working just fine here, although I haven't actually turned my computer off since. It has gone to "sleep" several times with no problem in restarting OOTPX.
Also, the releasing your license from the PISD website is relatively painless, although it is done manually so you have to wait for them to be awake and get to it.

Yeah, never once have had the problem until I restart. Not pre-patch or post- not sure what you mean about the release part. I just unlicense and relicense. Don't do anything manually. Everything is automatic and happens immediately, even if having to do it each time is a little bit annoying. |

Going to sleep isn't the issue at all...it is when I restart, something that I have to do on a regular basis for work. And yes, I know releasing the license is fairly painless, I've already had to do it once, but the simple fact that I have to go down that route at all is frustrating.
Do we have any idea of a timeframe for getting this resolved? I know as of yesterday morning Paul was working on getting a fix out...any idea if that happened?

Problem surfaced for me again . . .

Had to re-enter license after a restart again just now--but, since the patch, I have not had to unlicense first. |

Have now successfully turned off and restarted and game works fine. Yea!!
PISD note was for those of us who burned through our licenses by installing and reinstalling as a way to see if that would fix the problem before the patch was released. |

I just got home, and tried to fire up the game, and post-patch, it gave me the error WITHOUT rebooting this time. The only change was that there was a mouse hooked up prior to putting it to sleep...

Having the same issue in Linux
I just wanted to let you guys know I am having a similar issue in Linux, although in my case I did update my system.
I am running Open Suse 11.1. I had some issues with my Nvidia driver unrelated to OOTP, so I decided to do a full reinstall of the OS. All of my OOTP files are in a /home partition on my harddrive, so I did not format that partition. The rest of my HD was formatted during the re-installation. When I tried to log into OOTP, I got the "License is invalid message". I tried unlicensing and relicensing, and that seemed to work - so I am good. But I thought I would let you know in case it helped you figure out the problem. |

After the Patch
After I installed the patch I have had the license issue a few times. The nice thing is I can now just add my license and it will work again. When I find it most it is when I switch from my ethernet port to wireless and after shutting down.
hopefully this will help a bit too. John |

Hope I don't get into trouble for jumping the gun on this (
), but just a little heads up for any Mac users who might be checking this thread:I highly recommend keeping your license #s handy. I really think the problems that led to this thread have been entirely, or almost entirely, solved, but the licensing scheme for the Mac (and perhaps for Linux as well), may require us to enter our license number any time we upgrade (patch) the game. It's possible that this is inherent in the design of the security system and can't be changed. It all works fine, based on my experience, but it's not something that most of us are used to having to do. It just add a little delay to relaunching the game after making the patch. Pay attention to any instructions that come with the patch when it's released, as far as any update to the above. |

hosed license?
I purchased 2 licenses and assumed that one would be for my Macbook and one for my Mac Pro.
I ran into the dreaded problem described in this thread on my MacPro. The Macbook is still working without the license issue, though I suspect it will eventually need the patch. I tried to do the fix described in post #83 and I couldn't do as directed. I could not rename the file. Stupidly, I decided to trash the program and start over. Of course that didn't work. Have I irrevocably trashed one of my licenses? I was just starting to make some progress on this very detailed sim. I am feeling a bit doomed and disappointed, but I know some of this damage is self inflicted. TIA, Jay |

For years(since ootp8) I have run a league with friends. We get together 3 times a week and play the hell out of ootp. (I know, I need a life!) We don't play online cause this gives us a reason to hang. Well.....
We have not been able to play for over a week now. I have tried the new .app and now both of my license numbers are not working. The game will not "unlicense" either of them anymore nor can I continue any of our current games. I have asked pisd to "unlicense" my game. It works but only until I quit the program. The next time I open the game I can't play & the license is locked. I have kept the app open for days sometimes but that is just not practical any longer. I was told that I need to be online whenever I play or the license wont work. I have a computer that I only use for OOTP and a few other management games. Can I not play OOTP on it cause I don't have it connected to the internet? I don't recall being told this when I pre ordered the game. I currently have one license that is not useable and another that is "stuck" and PISD told me they will only unlock it a couple of times. Does anyone have any solution for this? I have been such a fan of this game and I do not want my OOTP "career" to end cause of a security issue. Jjerg
