BZ 3157: Linux User: Cannot Find Historical Database
I am running OOTP 10 under Open Suse 11.1. When I start a game, I get this message:
Cannot find historical database. Please check your database path in league options. So I went to check league options. My path is set as follows: /home/jayouzts/Documents/Out of the Park Developments-OOTP Baseball 10/stats This seems to be correct, as the folder exists and contains both the historical_database odb file and the master.csv file. I searched the forums and did find other people with this issue. However, the only solution proposed here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-database.html Applies to Windows. Linux has a completely different directory structure. |

Is this a new league, or converted from OOTP 9? Thanks! |

League information
Here is how I did it.
1. When OOTP 10 loaded, I clicked Create Custom game 2. Clicked Create Historical League 3. The season year defaulted to 1977. I also created one for 1903 and got the same issue, so I dont think the year matters 4 Leave the defaults as is and Click Next Step 5. Progress bars show the players are importing 6. The screen showing the league structure appears. Leave these alone and click Next Step 7. I left all the minor league boxes alone and clicked Next Step 8. I left the recalc, expansion, and financial screen check boxes checked. Click next step 9. On step 5 I left the defaults. Clicked next step 10. Entered my name and dob. Checked commissioner mode. Named the game 1977 replay. Clicked start game Progress bars come up showing the game loading, images copying etc. No problems at this point. When the progress bar stops, it takes me to the Manager Home page. That is when I get the error. Oh, I am not sure if this is relevant - but the error message is displayed in a Dialog box with an OK button. When I click OK, the dialog box appears again. When I click it a second time it goes away. The dialog box also has a help button. If I click that, it takes me to a page with these words: HEADLINE Content... File name = help_22000021.tpl I can send screenshots if that would help. If I restart the application and click Continue 1977 replay I get the error again. I can see all the teams and players. It seems I can even play the game. I am just worried I wont be able to import rookies when the time comes. Last edited by jayouzts; 06-04-2009 at 02:08 AM. Reason: added more detail |

Still not solved
I am fairly certain the problem is that the statistical database is not in the correct directory. I could fix this if I only knew what the correct directory was.
Is anyone successfully running the game in Linux without this issue? If so would you mind sharing with me the location of your stats directory? |

Success
Woo-hoo! I see what I was doing wrong.
The installer placed the BIN file in the home/username/Documents folder. I first tried copying the stats folder into the Documents folder to no avail. However, copying the contents of the stats folder (all the *csv files) and pasting them to the Documents folder (with the BIN file) worked. I no longer get the error message. By the way, thanks for supporting Linux. Its a far superior OS, and its great to have something run natively in it. |

Not sure if it is the same thing, but yesterday when I created a historical league, I used my own lahman db in its own directory under my home directory. The league creation worked great, but a dialog box does pop up at the end after starting the game saying that the database could not be found.
It was indeed found and the league created perfectly. I think it is related to the fact that my database was not in the default historical stats directory. Seemed more cosmetic - with no effect on the league creation. OS is in my sig.

Impact
The only impact I can see is when it comes time to have the rookie draft it wont be able to find the historical file to import them. I would suggest backing up your game before reaching the draft if you have that feature enabled.
