World Baseball League

A couple of months ago I designed a 26 team, 2 Division Baseball League from around the world, with a promotion/relegation system. Division 1 began with teams from the more prominant baseball countries, while division 2 had teams from the lesser lights of the baseball world. Here is the opening structure:

The playoffs work as follows:

The top 8 teams of Division 1 play off for the World Championship.

The bottom 4 teams of Division 1 play off with the top 4 teams of Division 2 in a cross over system (1st Div 2 vs 26th Div 1, 2nd Div 2 vs 25th Dix 1, etc with the four round 1 winners staying in/being promoted to Division 1. These playoffs continue until a Promotion/Relagation playoff winner is determined.

The World Champion then plays the Promotion/Relegation winner in an All-Star game type exhibition series.

The Results of the first 10 years will be next up.

May I ask what settings you are using? What's the allowed percentage of foreigners? How are you differentiating the two divisions? Are there financial differences, such as a more lucrative media contract for the first division? Can the divisions trade between each other?

I have been setting up an experimental England-based pro/rel league myself, mainly because I want to use those great EPL jerseys I found in the mod section, but have not started to play it yet.

It seems to me that the trickiest part of setting up such leagues is how to differentiate them. If player quality in the first division is ML level vs AAA level in division two, then any division two team that gets promoted is almost certainly going to go right back down the next season. And then there is the money question.

A promotion/relegation option could certainly make solo leagues more interesting. I hope that someday OOTP will include one.

At the moment I have not really differentiated between the two divisions talent or financials wise. I do have financials turned on, but really only for free agency. It's really just to change things up each season. I also tried foreigner restrictions but could not get the drafts etc to work right as foreigners were still being drafted. If I can get the foreigner limits right, I may restart the league with a 5 foreigner limit. I supsect it may be that I have not set limits to the minor leagues, I may try this and then run the league again. I would love to even have no foreigners if I can get the settings right.

I would ideally like to work the tv contracts if I can find a good system for doing it so Division 1 get bigger contracts etc. Not so mucht he system but what amounts to set it at. the inaugral draft wioth budgets in OOTP X may help this along too. I would also have set the drafts to have Division 1 draft in reverse finishing order then Division 2 in reverse finishing order each round, meaning Division 1 teams get the first pick of the best players, but as 52 players aree picked each round I hink this may be too much of a gap between 1st player piocked and 52nd player picked and the gap would widen too much. Another possibility is to draft in stages, Bottom 5 Division 1 then Bottom 5 Division 2 then next 5 Divison 1 etc.

I am also hoping for promotion/relegation to be included as an option in OOTP in the future, if this was the case I would not run the promotion/relegation section of the draft. I would also love to be able to run seperate playoffs for each division. Because the way it is set up right now, if the Promotion/Relegation playoff winner beats the World Champion, the Promotion/Relegation winner is considered champion by OOTP.
