Mel Turnbow?

Forgive me for having a newbie moment, but what is the Title bout communitys fascination with a fighter with a record of 8-13-0? I see his name crop up everywhere on here and i just dont get it? lol, sorry. :P

When the Trunzo Brothers introduced Title Bout to the public as a board game back in the 70s the game included fighter cards for all time greats and top rated active fighters. Among the retired all timers a single tomato can card was included--Mel Turnbow. Consequently, in terms of tomato cans, Mel has a special place in the memories of old time Title Bout players.

Actually, Mel wasn't alone. Heavyweights Tom McNeeley and Willie Besmanoff were also OR-1 in the board game. Mel was a little worse than they, but he had some company near the bottom.

Sad news I'm afraid

Apparently Mel passed away a couple of weeks back.

Mel Obit:
Turnbow, 69, brought boxing back to Cincinnati in mid '70s - #Share_Story

Damn. If I had known, I'd have gone to Cinci for a game of chess. :-(

Short obit but more than I have ever seen in print about Mr Turnbow.

HW boxer, railroad worker, chess player - sounds like he was a lot more interesting than any of us will ever know.

So long Mel.
