World Series Extra The Cubs won Game 1 of the World Series today, 6-5. It was a sloppy game at times, and the Cubs were fortunate to win it, after blowing a 4-1 lead in the 5th inning. Back to back home runs in the eighth inning by Sims and Lore tied, and then won the game for the Cubs.

World Series Extra After a shaky start, the Cubs settled down and played good baseball, winning Game 3 of the World Series 4-3. The win give the Cubs a commanding 3-0 lead in the Series, which they can wrap up tomorrow here in Chicago. Robert Jones, after giving up two in the first, pitched well, giving up one more run the rest of the way. Jones was named the Player of the Game for his efforts. Fredric Sims slammed a long home run in the 4th inning, giving the Cubs a 3-2 lead which lasted into the ninth. After giving up a Manders home run in the ninth to tie up, the Cubs young catcher Robert Lore hit a bases-loaded double in the ninth to win it.

World Series Extra The Cubs dropped a tough one today, 2-1 to the Vancouver Grizzlies. Steve Carroll's 2 run homer in the 7th was all the runs Vancouver needed to stave off a Cubs sweep. Carney pitched will in defeat, giving up just 5 hits.

Cubs lose Game 5!
Chicago Courier 30 October 1935
World Series Extra It was all Grizzlies, as they won the game 4-1, and narrowed the gap to 3 games to 2 in Game 5. Vancouver starter Gary Goodwin pitched seven strong innings before giving way to ace reliever Terry Ratley.

World Series Extra News and Notes: by Jill Bames Despite being up 3 games to 2 in the best of 7 World Series, there is a sense of urgency in the Cubs clubhouse. The Cubs did not want to have to go back to Vancouver, where Game 6 and possibly Game 7 will be played. Manager Sandy Clarkson discussed his pitching possibilities with numerous sports reporters in todays briefing. "In a perfect world, we would have both Carney and McHone available to pitch games 6 and 7. Carney is coming off a tough loss, and would be working on short rest. The other choices are Jones, Bates, and Wise. Bates and Wise have not pitched for a week or more, and are likely a little rusty. They are lefties, and Vancouver hits lefties pretty well. Jones has pitched well in the playoffs and is undefeated. My choice is to pitch either Carney on short rest, or Jones. If I pitch Carney tomorrow, then McHone has to come back on short rest as well. If I pitch Jones, then I have Carney well rested for Game 7, should we need him. I do not want to go to Game 7, especially here in Vancouver. I will decide before the game tomorrow who the pitcher will be." Last edited by dsvitak; 02-26-2003 at 07:52 PM. |

So, who is it to be...Bubba on normal rest, or the second best pitcher in the Majors, Michael Carney, on short rest.

My choice?
Jones in game 6, with Carney available for game 7.. Bubba's been 'clutch' so far, and I'll consider him that way until he shows otherwise.

just wanted to add that i have throughly enjoyed reading all 36 pages of this thread and can't wait to see what changes are instore for Bubba as he transfers from ootp4 to 5, and possibly his career lasts longer. keep up the GREAT work dude
PS...let Bubba start dude, the guy deserves to start the game, he had a great year in his own right. Ratings don't always determine everything, i've had many a 6/6 guy win 20 games and the Cy Young over my days playing OOTP4

This has been my favourite dynasty/career thread of all time... Anywhere... and I vote for Bubba starting
He can be the WS winner twice in his career for the Cubbies maybe!

Editors Note
Yeah, I was pretty pleased.
After looking at the season's stats, I don't have a problem with Bubba winning 23 games. With "A" durability, he finishes most of his games...this year, at 23-10, out of 36 starts, more than 90% He is already in the top 25 for complete games amongst active pitchers. Having said that, he won just under 70% of his decisions. The team won 109 games, about 69% of their decisions. He won...almost precisely...at the same rate of his team. So, no complaints with that. The team is a year older, and is playing at a very high level. The only starters older than 32 are Fredric Sims, at 34, and Oscar McHone, at 38. This will likely be Oscars last good year. I am shopping around for a third sacker to replace Sims, or at least a rookie to start grooming. At this point, I see 100+ wins for this upcoming year...and another 15-20 win season for 30 year old Robert Jones. |

Bubba and his career are going to have to go away, unless I can figure out a way to convert an html box score into a format more easily recognized by this board.
I know that there must be a way, I need a little help here. |

I don't have OOTP5, so I couldn't check on this myself, but are copy and paste options available in the in-game browser? (perhaps by right clicking?) If so, then you could probably copy that text and post it as you have been before.
Just a thought... |
