I still hate Jay Payton, but like... .00001% less now.

Did you see that sliding stop Jimenez made? He slid over it and the ball stayed under his body and he was pretty much lucky to find it and make the throw.

3-0 A's in the 4th...could we live to see another day?

There has been no Evil Haren sighting yet. Things are looking good. I still don't feel comfortable.

Edit: Here he is now.

Yes, I saw the play.

Ellis would have made the grab cleanly and spun to get the out at 2nd. Probably Kiger, too.

Then K, and broken bat groundout. We've got the good Haren today. Now it just depends on Macha not leaving him in too long.

Can someone explain why Beane preferred Jimenez over Rouse?

He didn't. They DFA'd Rouse when they signed Sauerbeck (I think, it was a pitcher) because they thought he'd be more likely to clear waivers. He didn't, and now he's in the Indians system. But it wasn't a big deal at the time because he didn't expect our starting SS, starting 2B, and backup IF to be out with injuries.

Should have DFA'd Charles Thomas anyways... who was DFA'd after the ALDS.

So, Jay Payton's stock is falling again, right?

Nah, they DFA'd Rouse on September 5th along with Roney. On the same day they put Jimenez back on the 40-man and claimed Jerome Williams off waivers from the Cubs.

Edit 1: Crosby was already out at that point.

Edit 2: Evil Haren gets lucky. Is it too soon to yank him?

Yes, he gets most of the hatred for his bad diving judgements and swinging at the first pitch.

OK, I was partially right, but it also does appear that Beane valued Jimenez more than Rouse, or at least thought they didn't need Rouse:
Quote:
Why did the A's designate Mike Rouse for assignment? He played well when called up and he would have been a better fit for the postseason than Mark Kiger.
-- Pat, Santa Fe, N.M.
Rouse hit .292 in eight games, but at the time both Antonio Perez and Mark Ellis were still healthy and it was felt he wouldn't be needed in the postseason. The A's did need a spot for a pitcher on the 40-man roster, so they gambled that Rouse had a better chance of clearing waivers than some of the other options. Rouse, however, was claimed by the Cleveland Indians.

He was? I can't find any record of that. Who took his place on the 40 man?

Because he was horrible in the 5th and there was no doubt it would continue for another inning.

Because Ken Macha is an incompetent ******, Haren will be left in to give up the lead.

Season's over.

Yep. And Joe Kennedy has been seen a lot this series. I don't like this scenario.

I really like Macha's use of the lefty/righty matchup though.

Oh wait.
