Whoa, I have always looked forward to Jonah's previews/reviews and enjoyed his contribution to OOTP, that last response was a little overboard, IMO.
I guess, I didn't read the above posts the same way Mr. Falcon did. I'll step quietly out. Thanks for the preview Mr. Falcon.

I'm a journalist by way of my college degree. We're taught, above everything else, to be factual.
I'm disappointed by how the journalist in this thread has handled himself. Kind of makes me want to apply to be one of these gamesite people, so I can do it the right way. -John |

Guys... stay calm. This is just a preview
Maybe Jonah never played with the reduced ratings before, and now since they are the default for custom/standard leagues he thought this was a new feature Guys, just enjoy the info!

There is so much NEW stuff in OOTP5, why mention something that isn't?

This is the first piece of writing I have seen from Jonah, and I feel it is a piece of junk. He definitely provided mis-information and then simply sluffed it off when he was challenged about it. If Markus and Co feel alright with it then thats fine, but I will be very reluctant to think of Mr. Falcon's future writings as having any value whatsoever.

The screenshots were nice, especially the manager screens. That's all I will say.

Mr. Falcon:
Here's what I think of your preview of OOTP5. Aside from the screenshots, your preview offered me NOTHING that I didn't already know about OOTP5. How am I supposed to get excited for a game when all you mention is insubstantial, recycled information not necessarily nor completely unique to this version of the game. I sincerely hope you do a better job of writing a review for OOTP5 when it comes out, or alternatively, let someone else who's more capable do it for you. Sincerely, zeroIQ Last edited by zeroIQ; 02-13-2003 at 05:08 PM. |

Ok guys, If anything, I'm disgruntled with the responses to the article, not the article itself. Don't you guys think he's been bashed enough? Let's try to show a little dignity from the OOTP community

I just wish that the review was close to accurate -- but it's sadly mistaken in places (and not going to be fixed, which is even more of a problem). That's why it's being so negatively recieved here.

Seems to me the preview would help attracting more customers.
So why argue over something little like what was in a previous version or not? As long as its in the version he's previewing, it works for me. |

Its easy to prove it just look in the game. But like Jermanfu said he just found out about it so maybe the guy didny know but sometimes you have to admit when your wrong or have made a mistake. Intentions are good but when someone points out a mistake, check it out and if it is wrong then correct it and admit your mistake or prove that it is right but dont insult people who have played the game for years and know the product. |

I'm guessing the real frustration here is the knowledge that, if we see that reviewers put this little effort into a preview where we know a lot of details and therefore can judge the effort, then imagine what sort of effort is lacking on previews/reviews where we *don't* know what we're missing.
However, I agree with the point that as long as the preview is positive, it's serving its purpose of giving the game free publicity. Hopefully everyone reads previews with a grain of salt anyway, considering we all know how much things can change before games go gold. We're all kooky and know where the career leaders button is (although I'm sorry to admit I actually didn't know, and I don't think I'm the only one besides jermanfu who didn't). The cattle who will buy this game because they saw this review won't necessarily be that detail oriented. |
