Small thing I would like to see

One thing I would like to see on the Player page or even the player HTML page is the name of the College/High school they were drafted from. Just quirky I know.

I was just thinking about the college/high school thing and was going to suggest the ability to turn it off, since for some leagues it makes absolutely no sense.

But if you had it turned on, this wouldn't be a bad idea. Just a little more fun info to have.

I think I read somewhere that this went the way of the dodo.

Players will come out of high school or college, but won't have a specific school name.

I think. That's not a beta tester official notice, it's an "I think I saw this somewhere."

I will affirm your statement. I am sure that Markus said somewhere that he left this out as it was just cosmetic.

Player numbers are also cosmetic, especially since they're not really used in many places.

In any case, I didn't really care for that feature, and I've never seen someone adamant about it.

Adding college/HS teams where they played just makes it feel more human. The more information you can have on a player the better as long as you have the options to turn on/off this options. But its not a must to add this things just adds a bit more feel to it.

I believe the main reason this was removed was because, with the additional of possible players from around the world, it would have been very problematic to determine a reasonable high school or college that matches the nation and the precise origin of the player.

Edit: I've seen a LOT of people who feel very strongly about player number though!

My beef with player numbers isn't that they exist, but that they're really rarely used. I couldn't tell you the number of one of my players in the online league I commish. I'm all for player numbers if they were displayed more frequently - I don't recall if it's the case in the OOTP 2006 screenshots, but if there are numbers assigned, might as well put them to good use.

Hopefully because we will eventually be able to create our own college and HS leagues to draft from. That would make OOTP the ultimate baseball sim.

I SOOOOOOOOOOOO wish this was going to be possible in OOTP2006.

Heck you want the ultimate baseball league let's have little leagues too. Start a player when he's about 5 and watch him go (no, I wasn't being sarcastic BTW). Now I don't really expect this ever and certainly not in the first version but if it ever happened I wouldn't mind.

The problem with that is that we'd need so many little leagues to aptly replicate it, there would be hundreds of thousands of leagues, with millions and millions of players.

I'd feel quite weird being pissed off because my 9 y/o right fielder was too busy picking his wedgie and not paying attention to the fly ball hit in his direction.

In all seriousness though, my opinion is that, anything prior to Rookie Ball would be useless. I guess college would be alright, I probably would never utilize it, but to do high school, or prior, long name is right...You'd neat millions and millions of players and teams. Bad use for hard drive space if you ask me

Oh I never said it was practical. Such a thing would be way too much info to adequately crunch mentally as well as being quite taxing on a computer. Still, I had a dream ...

I've seen parents behave that way at little league games before ... still I digress

On a side note to this suggestion, I'd like to be able to edit what college/HS they came from.

Little League is a bit extreme but HS / College could be a blast. Instead of having a million highschools to get the right ratio, you would just have to raise the equivlencies a little higher so more HS kids get drafted. While the ratio's wouldn't be like real life, it would be great to actually scout those players in HS as opposed to having just some ratings to show you what kind of player this kid is.

I am upset that they moved my thread from earlier today, and they don't move this one, which is much like mine. Another example of lousy mod work.

i think they should have numbers... the college or HS could be included in a player's bio if those are still editable (which i am assuming are)... but to make #s meaningful or more like IRL, maybe make big-name FAs request #s and say for example, a current team player refused to give up that # and the new FA was unhappy and underperforming? just an idea... but like #s even if they are cosmetic!
