There are different ways to interpret that. "The game" could be just the name. It could be just the code. It could be both. It's not really that concrete. I don't think it matters a whole lot. If Markus left he could probably put out another game within a year, perhaps under a different name. The biggest challenge would be a no-compete clause which is pretty standard for this sort of acquisition.

Well, it's just that I know Markus used a lot of SI's code to design the new version. It wouldn't hold true for 6.5 or earlier, but I didn't know how this would be handled in the new version or upcoming ones. No need for sarcasim.

Well, as a Cubs fan, I can handle the disappointment, if these dire events come to pass

Conservatives (and Cub fans) know better.

Conservatives know the world is a dark and forbidding place where most new knowledge is false, most improvements are for the worse, the battle is not to the strong, nor riches to men of understanding and an unscrupulous Providence consigns innocents to suffering. I learned this early.

Out in central Illinois, where men are men and I am native, in 1948, at age seven, I made a mad, fateful blunder. I fell ankle over elbows in love with the Cubs. Barely advanced beyond the bib-and-cradle stage, I plighted my troth to a baseball team destined to dash the cup of life's joy from my lips.

Spring, Earth's renewal, a season of hope for the rest of mankind, became for me an experience comparable to being slapped around the mouth with a damp carp. Summer was like being bashed across the bridge of the nose with a crowbar -- ninety times. My youth was like one long rainy Monday in Bayonne, New Jersey..."

It should be noted that SEGA spent over $50 million on this purchase.

I will repeat this again.

It should be noted that SEGA spent over $50 million on this purchase. Now I don't know much about the video game industry, but that sounds like a remarkable sum of money to me. And I would assume that SEGA understands that SI has a track record to keep up for a $50 million purchase to be worthwhile.

And, as said before, remember SI has been with Sega for around 2 years now and they say that they don't see much of SEGA during development and SEGA has always helped them out when SI asks for it, so......For what it's worth.

Just to put the $50 million dollars into perspective. The casual gaming industry (The Yahoo games, bejeweled, "bubble-poppers" and other small games) is over a $2 BILLION / year industry. While many might thing $50 million is a lot of money, it actually isn't when you take a look at the entire video game industry. Two years ago, the video game industry surpassed the worth of Hollywood. I think its awesome that SI was able to cash in on their YEARS of blood and sweat work they put into their product.

Just a little perspective.

does he own the franchise? the existing code? the code up to this point, the code done while he is now an employee of sega?

I don't know the answer to any of that, nor do I care to. The point that I and many others who have experience with mergers is - they ALWAYS start out with all the players saying "Don't worry, everything will be fine"

I do know that business legal structures, especially ones that involve multiple millions are still far more complex then the black and white.

do I think I am going to change your mind, nope? I just know what I know and this whole scenario walks and talks like a duck.

Seriously... I think Markus needs to be arrested and burned alive... I mean clearly the people on this board know much more about this situation than SEGA, SI, Marc, and Markus. What they (Sega & SI) have done is ruin video gaming for the rest of enternity... and this deal may actually lead to the end of civilization as we know it.

MD,

So true, and one of my FAVORITE George Will passages!

I don't post a lot, since I take a philisophical view to how things go in life and on this board, so I cannot say how this will go, but I never lose faith

Also, I am trying to come to a catharsis by living in San Diego, perhaps the last place for a Cubs fan to hang out

Anyway, we're 1-0, only 161 to go

I felt like I got hit in the gut when I read about this. Ok, maybe I do need a life. I don't see this as a positive, as being around the gaming industry, I've seen this kind of thing go wrong. That being said, Markus has never let us down before and has a good head on his shoulders for this kind of thing so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. That being said I will be visiting my pet store tomorrow to buy a dog cause Im a little afraid.

What good would a dog do? Or did the joke just go over my head. Probably the latter. NM.

It might be a Philly thing. One of our sports radio hosts always says "if you're scared buy a dog" when people start panicking about Philly sports, but that never happens.

I have been on these boards for years, have purchased every version of OOTP and am a self admitted "fanboy" of OOTP. But that doesn't mean I will agree with everything the company does.

to compare me to some troll who came on to trash OOTP because he loves Mogul is bs.

I don't think the merger is a good idea, I have stated my reasons - you disagree-fine.

But don't resort to cheap shots.

Every case is different, there is no one rule fits all on Intellectual Property (IP)

Markus has an agreement with Sports Interactive concerning the IP around OOTP Baseball. This is still in place, irrelevant of the company owners now.
