Ever try to avoid the updates prior to the release?

As a big fan of OOTP I'm always pumped for the new release but always a little let down when I first play the game. Don't get me wrong it's always a blast once I get my leagues setup and so forth but there aren't usually mnay surprises as with other games.

Soooo... I've decided to try to stay away from the OOTP board until I get the email that the game has been released. I've already pre-ordered so I'm locked in so why ruin the surprises of an expansion draft, better manager mode, and whatever else M.H. can cook up.

Anyone ever try this before, how well/poorly did it go?

More fun is waiting for the game to come out, then waiting another month to work out all the little bugs that weren't caught and then having your enthusiasm wane (or is it wax?) and so you continue to play OOTP5 (like I did with OOTP6)... Although I don't expect SI to release a version with any major issues...

I don't really hang back on games when there is info to be had. For films and books I avoid everything to do with it but I love to whet my appetite on the latest news on my favourite games like OOTP, EHM, FM, Civ IV, etc. And when the game does arrive I still find lots of little surprises.

whats really fun is watching the hype posters turn around and blast the game for being rushed out and unfinished.

Aren't you the same guy who just posted a screen shot of the draft page, saying how cool it looks?
