If I buy the 6.5 Expansion pack but don't like it?

If I buy the expansion pack but don't like it (the forums are not leaving a fuzzy warm feeling about it - but the features are too good to pass up), can you play the game around the expansion back or simply remove it?

One of the main features I like is the ability to shop a player around - anyone have feedback on that feature alone? Does it work well?

The expansion pack runs seperately from OOTP 6, so you could run either OOTP 6.5 (expansion pack) or OOTP6. Heck, you could run them at the same time. And yes, if you dont like 6.5 you could uninstall and Ver. 6 would still be there, fully intact.

Not a problem.

The shop a player is nice but I hardly use it anymore. The newness wore off a bit. The expansion is nice, IMO, if you can get past the problems with Cato.

what exactly is CATO? I haven't quite figured it out. Is it a program that keeps track of past seasons? Or does it take the stats and makes them more search engine friendly? Is it a league? What is it?

Have you ever been to Baseball-Reference.com? If so, it puts the stats from your league into a format much like BR. It does only keep track of past seasons but then again, so does BR.

The almanac is a very limited version of a player's seasonal history. Most of the opinions would be that it falls very short in comparison to the kinds of information Catobase offers. Spend some time in your almanac, then go to baseball-reference.com or better yet find someone's Catobase history on their site and then draw your own conclusion. Personally, I think you'll agree. However, not everyone needs or wants the same level of statistical depth. You decide after a review what's best for you and your style.

The almanac does this, somewhat.... Catobase is the Almanac on Steroids. Much cleaner interface, separates players stats if they play on multiple teams, winshares, Encyclopedia look and feel, in career mode not seasonal like the almanac. Many other features.... worth it to keep a league in catobase, just not in 6.5 (too many issues for to deal with)...

And don't forget the very rarely updated Anderson Utilities. It makes over 1000 HTML files for your viewing pleasure.

I recently found a game with 8 errors in it, 6 by the guy at 2nd base.

Definately can be frustrating working with Cato. Keep backups of all your seasons at the end of seasons, backup cato database before importing stuff and you can always repair a database. Having MS Access helps a ton too. I know I would have long since ditched Cato if I didnt have it and hadnt learned how to fix alot of problems using it.

I haven't bought in on the expansion pack yet. I'm skeptical that it will work well enough to justify putting out money when we're about half a year from a new OOTP anyway. I'm a catobase fanatic, too, so if it isn't working right with Cato, I won't use it.

I was hoping there would be a final release of it with problems fixed by now, but there's not, and the longer we go without it, the less chance there is of me purchasing the expansion pack at all.

There is hope! I successfully imported my first season into catobase last night! Using 6.5 b no less! Not a whole lot of tweaking required.
