Trading Block
I've encountered a little problem when playing OOTP4. I read the league transaction news and it states that 'so and so' has been put on the trading block, but when I try to acquire them it just says we will not trade 'so and so'. Has anyone else experienced this as well? I haven't downloaded version 4.2 yet because I'm too into the game I'm playing at the moment.

I had the same problem before. There's a thread on here about it somewhere if you search.

Just like the "We can't imagine a reasonable offer that involves X." They'll frequently still trade him, you've just got to offer a lot. There's just no deal that offers comparable value. The AI will allow you to rip yourself off, though.

Just d/l the patch and unzip the .exe file in it on the folder where you have OOTP4 installed, overwritting the old .exe file.

I encountered the same issue as Jimmy Jack, and I did considerable testing to see if I was simply making unreasonable offers.
I added my star players (and looked at salary issues, too) to my offer (trades so unbalanced in favor of the team with the player on the block I would never push the 'accept' button) Yet even these trade offers invariably produced the "we won't trade Joe Blow" message. It happened with over 10 differnent players on 6 different AI teams. so I think this is more in the 'bug' category than simply not offering a good deal |

Thats weird OldGiants, I can for the most part get just about any player in the league if I offer enough.

another problem i've noticed is this:
A computer team will offer me a trade. Player A for Player B. Now keep in mind that the 7 day expiration period has not passed and the player has not been moved. I go straight to the Trade Feature in the game, yes i ignored the email (I was testing something) and decided to build the same trade. The AI responded with a, "that trade wouldn't help us" ??? They can offer ME the trade but not feel the trade is the same when i offer the trade? The trade AI is great, i respect it a lot but it's the little things that annoy me. It's almost as if the AI doesnt really know what they are doin at times and EMAIL trades are different from trades in the trade a player section of the game. that shouldn't be. I also really feel there is no connection between player block and the trade a player section. Yes people say the offer is out of hand, but even when you offer something of value to the team, they respond with a "we wont trade Player A" yet they have him on the trade block. I really dont think there is a direct connection between the block, emails, and the trade feature. It appears as if the trade block is more for AI to AI trades. Hopefully this is something that could be looked into. |

In my experience in using the trade block, I have traded a number of players that I placed there to computer owned teams. They don't always get "looked at", I've had players sit there for over a year with NO offers, but I have also traded away a number of players I placed there.
In reference to your experiment of getting a trade offer then going to the "trade area" and setting up the same trade to see if it would fly and having it come back rejected. I see that as "possibly" like the idea of "I like it IF I thought it up, not if you did" kinda thing. No facts to back this up, per se but I know that human's act this way.

I've had the same experiecne YankeePride had with e-mail trades, but there have been times when I've gone back and offered the same trade and had it accepted, too. And after the seven-day window of opportunity was closed, too. (I had not stopped the game because I though the message would ony be a "we won Mothers' Day' message.)
But I have repeated my attempts to get solid players on the trading block with overwhelming offers and gotten nothing--even when I offer my all-star starter at the three positions the offering team needs. I like Steve's answer because I've worked for a lot of people who acted that way.

Have you tried swithcing the teams on the trade screen? Instead of your team being the offering team make them the receiving team and the computer team the offering team. Build the exact same offer and see if it likes the trade that way. I'd been messing around and it seemed that the AI liked a trade that way when it didn't with the original setup of me being the offering team.
This could have absoulutely no bearing on the trade since I never really did any extended tests. Just seems that if the AI was initiating the trade, having the trade screen configured the way the AI was looking at it when it emailed might make a difference. I'd like to see a button for players on the trading block added to all the screens to filter out the other players. Would be great when doing trades to see what a team has on the trading block instead of having to go to each teams transaction page...and would also help me remember who I had on the block. I also wish that the email popup would tell you the subject of the email. I hate stopping to see that my fan loyalty increased slightly. Trade offers are listed but everything else is unknown email. Having a switch to turn on what type of email notification you wish to receive and don't wish to receive as a popup would be just as good. |

When you switch the offers on the trade screen, you're cheating. The "That's a good offer!" result when you get that is because the program ALWAYS looks at the trade from the RECEIVING team's point of view. It's not that the AI likes the trade that way, it's that they have no say in it. Try this: Have any team offer their lowest, no-talent A-ball player to Montreal for Vlad Guerrero, Jose Vidro, and Bartolo Colon. No deal. Then, have Montreal be the OFFERING team, and put the same three players up for the same scrub, and the other team (not Montreal, the "recieving team") will say "That's a good offer!" unless they can't afford them or something similar. |

Great answer Steve. lol.
However, while I like adding that whole aspect of "pretending" that's what's goin on, I would really like for it to be looked into. Obviously, my word is only my word. But there are quite a few times where we pretend something is happening just to pretend that we didnt notice a small hole in the AI. Like i said before, I think this game is light years ahead of the competition. I guess, maybe i'm being spoiled though. I see how great this game is and the second i notice one tiny hole I think it cant be possible, this must be fixed! Ya know? In a sense, i'm just trying to help out. I dont wanna sound like a whiner and a complainer. Most of the time when i notice small holes, I mention them for the better of the game and for Markus to take notice. With the updates he's released, it's obvious that Markus is always reading our threads (or you Steve are at least mentioning to him what some people have said) I appreciate that. |
