has to be "the thrill"...didn't see anybody else answer it...now
who's the pitcher and his brother... oh forgot...will hit his first off nolan... I was taken #2 in the country in a rich draft that saw the first four picks make it the majors within 2 years. I homered in my first swing in the professional baseball as a minor leaguer and soon after, homered in my first big league at bat (off a future Hall of Fame pitcher, no less). I was a All-Star starter at my position for 5 straight years in the late 80's to early 90's. I was voted in the top five for the league MVP four times, and once finished second behind my teammate. Who am I?

Yep, Will "The Thrill" Clark is correct.
Rich, Gwynn is a good guess. Clark lost a batting title to Gwynn on the final day of the season in 1989 |

Gibson .290 Avg 25 HR 76 RBI 31 SB (12 errors in LF..UGH!)
Strawberry .269 Avg 39 HR 101 RBI 29 SB McReynolds .288 Avg 27 HR 99 RBI 21 SB (0 cs) 18 assists (led) OPS Gibson .860 Strawberry .911 McReynolds .832 Strawberry definitely had the best offensive year. 76 RBI from an MVP? 12 errors in LF is a VERY high total. I certainly maintain that, all things considered, Gibson had the worst year of the three. GH |

Darn! Could've sworn it was Nolan Ryan.

Adam's Ribs was the name of the restaurant that Hawkeye bought the ribs from and I think Lou Gehrig was the career leader in dingers when Ruth retired.

is correct, way to go!
they finished second to boston but won the playoff...temple cup or something like that. Joe Corbett, who went 24-8 for the 1897 NL Orioles. Brother "Gentleman" Jim Corbett was heavyweight champion from 1892-97. |

3 players, one trivial commonality:
a) I started out well – my first three major-league hits were home runs. I was 3rd in the Rookie of the Year voting. In my second full season in the majors I finished 2nd in the MVP award voting. I was considered the heir apparent on a team with a long history of star players at my position. In 1990 I made news by hitting the 3rd inside the park grand slam of the season, which had not occurred in the AL since 1947. Another strange feat was when I drove in all nine runs in my team’s 9-8 win. No other player has ever driven in nine or more runs for his team's total score. Who am I? b) I was the only starting pitcher with a losing record the year my team won its only World Series title. I served up the fateful pitch that allowed the 13th player in Major League history to hit 500 home runs. It was also me who threw the pitch that hit Don Baylor for his A.L. record breaking 25th HBP. I am now a pitching coach with a very successful team. Who am I? c) I pitched a no-hitter as a rookie and was the youngest pitcher to perform the feat since Paul Dean. As a Major League sophomore, I was the first to get to 20 wins that season. My team’s owner tried to “sell” me twice to other teams but both deals were vetoed by the Commissioner. I was later traded for 7 players, surpassing the majors only 6 for 1 trade, which occurred in 1953. Who am I? |
