Here is my 2006 preview

# 1 - SS - Gerry Cashwell - 21 - USA

Cashwell will destroy you will his bat. He was named Big XII player of the year after hitting .466 with 23 HR and 81 RBI, and led the Texas Longhorns to the national title. He has a muscular build on a small looking frame. This guy has all the potential in the world at the plate. He could be a .360 50 HR guy. He doesnt have a ton of speed but can steal a few bases. He has range at 3 infield positions, with 2B and SS being his best. This guy is the # 1 prospect because of his tremendous bat. He isnt a 5 tool player but, he has good tools behind his bat. Will the Phillies take him #1?

# 2 - SP - Ricardo Valenzuela - 20 - Puerto Rico

This Puerto Rican native has all the tools to be absolutley dominating in the NBSL. His screwball and sinker are nearly unhittable, along with a tailing fastball and a Glavine like changeup, he absolutely bufuddled other Puerto Rican hitters twice his age. He is a little rough around the edges but has the potential to be one of the best Latin pitchers ever. He is being compared to a young Pedro Martinez. If he gets polished in the minors watch out NBSL. Will he be the highest drafted SP this season? Watch for him to go to the Cardinals at #2.

# 3 - SP - "The Outlaw" Jesse James - 17 - USA

"The Outlaw" as he is called by friends and team mates. He comes in as my #3 pick for this years draft from Lakota West HS in Ohio. There is nothing this kid cant do. He is big and tall 6'7'' 210 and he can fire. He has reached 101 on some scouts guns this season. He was 47-1 in his last two prep seasons. He threw 5 no hitters in his high school career and had an amazing strikeout to talk ratio of 10.4/1. His slider is absolutley devastating, and he has amazing stamina for a youngster. He will be an NBSL star, some say as soon as his 20th birthday.

# 4 - SP - "Mad Dog" Jamal Posey - 23 - USA

Mr. Posey led the Fresno State Bulldogs with a 17-3 record and a 3.21 ERA. He K'd 203 batters in 160 innings pitched. He has great control and tremendous velocity. His fastball reaches 96 on the radar gun and he might have the best splitter since Roger Clemens. He also keeps the ball down and fields his position well. We could see Randy Johnson type strikeout numbers from this lefty.

# 5 - SP - Douglas Twitty - 18 - USA

This righty from Orange, California is the real deal. He led his team deep into the state playoffs. He has a good fastball with good movement as well as a tremendous curveball, remenicent of Ben McDonald as a prep. He throws in the mid 90's and has good command of his pitches. he will need to work on fielding his position and holding runners before he gets to the bigs, but expect big things from this kid.

# 6 - 2B - Adam Anderson - 18 - USA

Adam Anderson from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin is a smooth hitting middle infielder. He has good speed a good glove and he can steal some bases. He has a smooth fluid swing which reminds some of a young A-Rod. He batted a blazing .511 with 13 HR and 66 RBI. He earned state player of the year honors twice while he led his St. Mary's Springs Ledgers to two state crowns. He also led a Wisconsin all-star team to 3rd in nationals losing to eventual champ West Texas led by 1B Robby Turner. This kid has good tools already and could see big league action in 3 years.

# 7 - 3B - Bryan Dickenson - 21 - USA

Originally from Scottsdale, AZ this switch hitting Sun Devil stars primed to take his career to the next level. He batted .422 with 21 nd 77 RBI on the season and led the Pac 10 in slugging percentage. He has pretty good range, and a sure glove at the hot corner. He doesnt have a ton of speed but enought to move along. He has good pop, and a good eye as he doesn't strike out much. He has the potential to be a .330 35 HR guy in the NBSL.

# 8 - 1B - Robby Turner - 18 - USA

This sluggin first basebman from Plano West HS in Texas lead the conference in hits, doubles, HR, RBI, SLG% and OB%. He also led all Texas preps in HR with 32. He is very valuabe because he can play OF as well as 1B. He plays good defense at 1B and runs adequately for a first sacker. He is a very powerful young man as he hit .505 with 32 HR and 83 RBI this past season as he led Plano West to a runner up finish in state. He also has a good eye for the zone and wont swing wildly. Look for him to be a good lefty in anyones lineup.

# 9 - RF - Miguel Pichardo - 19 - Dominican Republic

Miguel has great speed, plays great defense and can crush the baseball. Even though he doesnt strike out much he is a bit of a free swinger and has a tendancy to swing at bat pitches. He can play CF and RF but is better suited at RF. He might be the closest to a 5 tool player in the draft, but he wants to play for a winner, so you had better win some games or he wont resign with you.

# 10 - SP - August Buncho - 18 - USA

August Buncho from Miami Sunset HS, has a good changeup and slider to go with his fastball, which reaches the low 90's. He is very good at keeping hitters off balance, and forcing them to hit groudballs. He also is good at working ahead of the count, and he often takes command of a game. The only knock on him is that he is injury prone. Time will tell if he can hold up to the rigors of an MLB season.
