Seriously, this is so far down on the Yankees list of problems that need to be fixed that it doesn't even register. The decision to play A-Rod at 3B instead of Jeter hasn't resulted in any lost victories.

The team was fine last year with this decision.

The decision to play Tony Womack anywhere, however, is one that should be addressed!

Doesn't Womack have more All-star votes than Orlando Hudson? 4th overall infact?

Are you telling me that a possible All-Star isn't good enough for the Yankees?

Or are you telling me that all-star voting is a joke and that fans in cities can't get by their partisanism to select the best possible teams?

Yankees: .266/.345/.423
Opponents: .292/.341/.437

The -.026 BA is the worst differential of any team. Yankees WHIP is 1.43 and in the bottom 5 or 6 for both leagues combined. Is it the pitching or the defense?

edit: I should say, it is a joke if the goal is to determine value. If the goal is to entertain, then sure, it may work fine.

I would say it has cost them almost 4 victories last year, and possibly 1 in the playoffs. And already 2 this year.

Probably a combination of that and a little bit of bad luck mixed in.

I was trying to explain this to my dad this morning. A high BABIP has to do with 3 things... line drive % (which pitchers don't normally control very much), poor defense (which the yankees have), and just plain bad luck.

That is a lot of victories!

What makes you say that, Jax?

Well it was a crude way, but you cannot tell me that taking someone that had a 10.0 WARP1 and replacing him with someone with 6.0 WARP1 does not cost a team victories. It might not has been as many as I said, but it has cost the Yankees victories.

What you would have to really do here (if you want to use WARP in a really black and white way) is compare the difference between WARP with Jeter at 3B/ARod at SS with Jeter at 3B/ARod at SS.

In doing this you'd get the difference in wins just taking into account defense. There is no chance it would amount to 40 runs, which is roughly 4 wins.

What you did was compare the difference between a Yankee team with no ARod and Jeter at SS and a Yankee team with no Jeter and ARod at SS... everything else being equal.

Ok, for sake of the argument, 20 runs. Or 2 wins. Having AROD at 3rd instead of short is costing the Yankees wins. But I guess as Dagrims said it probably is a lower priority. I am just angered at the move they made one of the best Shortstops of all time make.

I just don't see it. Why do you think Jeter's defense at 3B would be better than A-Rod's at 3B? It may have been better for A-Rod's psyche to remain at SS, but it also may have been better if he wasn't a Yankee.

It isn't Jeters defense being better than A-Rod's at third, it is A-Rod's defense being miles ahead of Jeter at SS.

Oh, I'm completely with you there (although I really don't mind as a Sox fan).

It's more the principle of the thing that annoys the **** out of me. I like Derek Jeter, not because he's a "gamer" or a "winner" but because he is what he is... a VERY smart baseball player.

That being said, I get so insanely fed up with the pedestal that the media and fans put him on that it's tough for me to like him sometimes. That illogical pedestal is reflected in the decision to keep him at such an important defensive position when there is someone who is vastly better playing along side him.

I can't stand ARod but he should get the credit for putting his ego aside, while Jeter should be chastised for not being able to do so for the better of his team.

Again, though... the Yankees have many more problems to deal with at this point.

Maybe they could trade Jeter for some pitching and a third baseman.

Too bad his contract makes him unmovable.

I think this is the math if you just advocate just switching them: (A3) + (Dss) + X = (D3) + (Ass).

(Ok: get it out of your system -- hehe)

X is the amount of runs you'd save if you switched the two.
