Which team has had, at their peak, the most "mystique"?
This question was asked on CTV Sportsnet in Canada, and I just thought I'd see what other people think.

Gooood question!
I'm gonna have to say Montreal. They carried an aura of invicibility for over four decades . The Yankees are a close second, imo. EDIT: Woohoo, I just got sent up to Triple A ball!

Mystique...I agree with a lot of the above, but how about:
"Bear" Bryant's Alabama squads...Namath, Stabler, Todd...something powerful about football in 'Bama in that era. Mystique is more than just being dominant or good, its like an aura...and I imagine that in the Alabama autumn, successful Tide football was just in the air, natural, pure and expected...

I know I'm going way back, before my parents time, even, but what about Notre Dame, pre-1950's (and certain periods from Hornug through Holtz).
Is it just me, or does it seem that we (and I can only speak for Americans as a broad stroke) are too jaded to put much stock into mystique and aura anymore? |

You think so Carplos? Look at the Habs in the 50s and 70s (won 5 straight in 50's and 4 straight in 70s)... the mystique surrounding them isn't totally made up, I mean, when you go 60-8 (more ties than losses!) like the Habs did in 76-77, it's not a marketing coup. Besides, I don't think you can market that mystique thing... real sports fans won't buy it.

I'd agree with that. Look at what happens to teams that move to new arenas.
