Lol. Had no idea it was like that.

September 10. The Royals have actually beaten the Oakland Pathetics to 100 losses with a 5-2 L to the Blue Jays.

Not many teams go hitless for 11 innings & win. Reminds me of Harvey Haddix. Must have had a picther friendly ump behind the plate.

I was impressed by the sudden increase in offensive output in extras…until I remembered what Manfred did to despoil extra innings. Way to kill the drama, Robbo!

Ke'Bryan Hayes might be my favorite MLB player.

I would rather have a tie after 9 innings than the current extra innings system.

Please, no ties!

I hated the Ghost Runner rule. I still do.

I can however live with it. Especially in the context of all the other changes that have made baseball more watchable to me.

I don't like ties either. But it doesn't exactly ruin the game either. Most popular sports are football & futbol & they both have them.

So ask yourselves, which is better?

A tie?
Rundown bullpens that might not recover for weeks?
Changing the integrity & rules of the game?

I would be fine w/3 extra innings played the "regular" way & then we go home.

I like Option D- a minor change to prevent long extra innings and increase the value of contact hitters, small ball, and relievers who can miss bats or create weak contact.

How about three extra innings played the traditional way. If the game is still tied, instead of starting extras with a runner on 2nd, just load the bases! And start the first hitter off with a 3 & 0 count!

Nah, just go with a home run derby to settle the tie, just like the Pioneer League does!

This would work for me also.

Our season (Cleveland Guardians) has not worked out as well as we hoped, but we still enjoy watching the games. We have only been to 1 game this season, but if the weather is not too outrageous we hope to attend a few more.

We just enjoy the process and rituals of baseball. Even in a difficult season there are good stories and young players to root for. We have been without Shane Bieber and Triston McKenzie for most of the season, but Gavin Williams has been a pleasant surprise. We have also really enjoyed watching Bo Naylor grow as a catcher. And new veteran arrivals like Kole Calhoun and Ramon Laureano have been fun to watch.

Nice MLB debut last night for the Dodgers' Kyle Hurt, facing the Padres' "Immensely Talented But Knucklehead's Row" of Tatis, Soto, and Machado and setting them down in order, then finishing by striking out the side in the ninth. Granted, it was not exactly a high-leverage situation - an LA blowout - but still a nice way to start a career...

(Being sent down today was probably not what he had in mind, but he'll surely be back up soon, as today's move was just pitching staff management...)

On another subject, I wonder what a pre-season parlay would've looked like that had the Padres, Cardinals, Red Sox, Mets and Yankees all missing the playoffs...

In the NL, four teams are battling for the last wild card spot, separated by just a half-game, with only 15-16 games left to play.

My vote is still for Mookie Betts. Not just his stats, but the fact he kept it up while switching to 2B and SS seemingly effortlessly with good defense. He has clearly been more valuable to LA than Acuna to an overachieving Braves team (Olson). To me at least, what Mookie has done in the field is more impressive than a guy who pitches one day a week and is the DH the other days.

Good question. The Cards and the Yankees were kind of “dead men walking” in 2022. You could see the weaknesses, and little was done to fill those holes. Not good teams. [When the Phillies quickly dispatched St. Louis in the Wild Card Series, I couldn’t help thinking “what were they even doing there in the first place?” Of course, I also thought that about Atlanta, after the Phils dispatched them in the NLCS….] The Padres clearly had the talent, but yeah all knuckleheads who had never put it together, so doubts there. The Red Sox are a good team going through a makeover in a tough, tough Division. I am no fan, but I thought the Mutts would dominate, leaving my Phillies in the dust. Wrong. Who could foresee that every key player on Atlanta would have a career year in the same season? That’s like flipping a coin and getting heads, twenty times in a row. Possible; but not realistic.

Cubs are one bad series away from falling back into play. They are head to head vs Arizona this weekend. Marlins unfortunately has Atl. They are 1-9 vs the Braves. Toronto was 2 games above the Rangers for the final WC spot. Now they are 1 game behind after losing 3 in a row @ home to Texas.

He's played 16 games at SS and made three errors at the position. He's not good at short. He's been in RF most of the season. Freddie Freeman's bat as been as valuable to the Dodgers as Betts.

The Mets did the same 20 coin flips.

Except they flipped tails 20 times.
