With regard to my post last week about Ed Bruyette, I did quite a bit of digging over the past several days, and found that the Bruyette formerly pictured in the Facepack (taken from a 1907 Seattle Siwashes team photo) actually IS the Major Leaguer. There is too much background information to post here, but if anyone would like the supporting detail, in which I disentangle the records of Ed Bruyette, Arthur Bruyette and Mike Breyette, feel free to send me a message or email.

Bruyette has been re-inserted, but with this clearer, closer version of the image which was originally in the Facepack.

Color image to possibly replace half-toned image in Pitchers Pack. I'm sure Hy Peskin would know how to keep the wonderfully orange lettering in the original without also keeping Nelson's face orange…but I'm no Hy Peskin, I'm afraid. (If anyone can manage it, please feel free to improve on my work here.)

Fact I had not known: Nelson was the #1 overall pick in the 1969 A.L. expansion draft.

(Note: this is from McFarlane's 1964 cup of coffee, not his 1962 debut. The Pirates didn't put numbers on the front of the uniforms until 1963.)



(P.S. If you're one of the other two people who ever read Shelby Whitfield's Kiss It Goodbye, you know why the subject of McFarlane gives me the giggles. But that's OT for here, I suppose.)

This picture from training camp is, frankly, lousy. Too much shadow, too blurry…even after my clean-up efforts, it's not hugely useful in letting us see Jack's face. But we don't have a Hamilton/Indians pic in the Pitchers' Pack (although it's not on the UIN list, for whatever reason) so…better than nothing, right?

Okay, not *much* better, I grant you. But still.

Just a little background on the UIN list for you and others that have joined this community later than some others.

I play another simulation game and I started getting uniforms for each player for each team as a way to improve the images for that game. That game combines player stats that played for two different teams IN THE SAME LEAGUE into one for the season in question. So when I started compiling the list for myself to keep record of what I had and what I didn't have there was no need to get a picture of the respective player on the first team.

There are many instances when this was the only time that the player would play for the first team in question such as this player and the Indians therefore since there was no need for a picture of the player in an Indians uniform it was not recorded on the list as one I needed.

It was not until I discovered this site and started sharing my list with the contributors on this thread that I decided to go ahead and get a picture in every uniform for each player even though I really didn't need all of them.

I have never taken the time to go back and update the list to include these player because I have been working on local high school sports history projects.

Just thought you and others would like to know.

The last stop for "Scrap Iron" as a player was across the Bay from where he broke in. This picture is a possible replacement for the B/W image in the Batters Pack.

Even more importantly, it shows that the famous "Yosemite Sam" mustache grew back quickly after Phil shaved it with the Dodgers the previous year. (He's still clean-shaven in the B/W Giants picture, which was probably from spring training.)

bmarlowe points out that the Charlie Bastian image in the Facepack (and posted here last year) comes from an auction in which the photo carried incorrect IDs. I have replaced the "Bastian" image in the Facepack with the confirmed image below.

Thanks to tnfoto for the Minnie Minoso photos with the Negro League New York Cubans. You would think that there would be a lot of this material available, but good Minoso photos with the NY Cubans are really very hard to find. The Baseball Hall Of Fame photo archives contain only photos of his major leagues playing days.
