To Braves 70

The Yankees website is mine. Glad you've been enjoying it. I have had nothing but praise about it. The best part has been hearing from relatives of many older and deceased players. Some have thanked me profusely for finding photos of their loved ones and some have actually sent me photos for the website. Also I have discovered that the YES Network people and several others have snagged a bunch of the photos for their own websites - didn't even change my file names. And I also have pages devoted to the Kansas City Athletics, Tulsa Oilers, Buffalo Buffeds and Minnesota Vikings linked to the site. I've heard from lots of people about those pages as well.
Regarding the copyright issues - my website has been up for several years and I've never had anyone ask me to take down a single photo. I doubt Topps has any interest at all in our various blogs and websites.

Great! You have done a fantastic job and I surely thank you for allowing us to share in the photos. I enjoyed looking through the Kansas City A's, Tulsa Oilers, and the Vikings as well. I also save the Topps Vault football images that are posted. I have already pulled in some of your A's and Yankees of the 1920s. Thanks again and let us know if we can help in any way.

I just want to thank you for all the hard work you must put in finding betters pictures. I just print what you put forth, knowing that it will be an improvement.

Now if Merkle923 has Jerry as a Seattle Pilot, I'll be all set.

Jerry Bell never played with Seattle, did he? Gary Bell did but there are several real nice photos already available for him. From baseball reference, Jerry Bell played four seasons all with the Brewers beginning in 1971.

Jerry Bell was drafted by the Pilots. Its not his fault Satan Selig stole the team and moved it to Milwaukee.

I'm currently working on a Pilots custom card set and trying to be a little more complete than your standard Jim Bouton/Mike Hegan/John Kennedy variety. I've done my share of colorizing and digital manipulation, but real is always the best. And Merkle's collection is...not sure if I should go with "amazing" or "un-effing-believable", here. This might not be the thread to ask, but the posting of the Brewer pic in reply to a Baseball Birthdays post of mine kind of led me there.

As the 1969 NY-P pitcher of the year, Jerry was without doubt in camp with the team in the spring of 1970, while they were still Pilots. We all know Bill Parsons also never pitched for the Pilots, yet Topps Vault released a picture of him in Pilots gear earlier this year.

Even in 1969, many of the Pilots minor leaguers were photographed with (at least) Seattle caps. Hence this exceedingly poor Jerry Bell head shot from the local upstate New York newspapers of the day.

Have you seen the 52 Pilots cards set that simarc has made, with the 1969 Topps template ? If not, follow this link 1969 Pilots Topps Cards Redeux in Add-Ons and Third Party Tools Forum.

You won't find Jerry Bell in that set, because there are only the players who made an appearance with the team in 1969.

Yep. Those were, I think, the first custom Pilots ("set", as I'd earlier come across a stand alone Jim Bouton) I ever saw on the web. There have been lots of others, all of them fine. But, like any idiot with a computer and a love of baseball (and cards), I wanted to make my own. So I did (last year)...126 cards plus variations (that did include a lot of "season highlights" cards, team card, Sick's Stadium card, coaches, and most of those who were on the 40 man roster in '69 and/or '70). Since then, I've gotten much better with my colorizing and digital manipulation skills, plus found some other (sometimes better) pictures, so I wanted to take another stab at it and include some of those I didn't include the first go 'round. Like Jerry Bell. Trying to find lesser used pictures as well. I plan to post the set over at Baseball Birthdays beginning in the new year--one card at a time (I'll likely include in each post the player's card--if any--from my previous set for comparison purposes or...nah, just for the heck of it).

Who is this guy?

Can someone identify this Pirates player?

I believe I got it in a Pirates photo lot I won from one of Henry Yee's Ebay auctions maybe ten years ago. I asked Bob Friend, Dick Groat, and Joe Garagiola, they couldn't ID him.

Thanks,
Jay
