United States Baseball League

How bout this old league for the next project...

United States Baseball League

The United States Baseball League was a short-lived hopeful third major-league that was established in New York City in 1912.
In March 1912, organizers of the proposed league–described by members of the sports establishment as an "outlaw league"–met in New York's Hotel Imperial.[1] The U.S. Baseball League subsequently organized teams in Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, New York, Reading, Pennsylvania; Richmond, Virginia; and Washington, D.C.[2] The league president was William Witmann.

Teams

The League tried again in May 1913, with a slightly different medley of teams. Among the newcomers were the Lynchburg Shoemakers, who had been ejected from the Virginia League the season before. They played their home games at the Fairgrounds in Lynchburg, and sported an old-style L on their uniforms. Another entry from the Nation's capitol played at Georgetown Park in Georgetown. Although ostensibly called the Senators, the Washington Post dubbed this team the Bandits (because of their Outlaw status). The Bandits lost their season opener at Georgetown Park in an exciting extra-inning game to the visiting team from Brooklyn, 9-8. Meanwhile, the Shoemakers also dropped their home opener against Baltimore at the Fairgrounds 7-4. The Baltimore team finished with the best record in the drastically foreshortened 2nd season, and was informally known as the Monumentals, the usual nickname for outlaw teams who played in opposition to the established Orioles. Things became unravelled very quickly again in 1913 for the U.S. League, due in particular to the flop of the New York and Newark teams, who quarreled about the pitiful proceeds from the Gate at the opener played in Newark.
Ballparks

  • Bronx Oval - New York
  • Exposition Park - Pittsburgh
  • The Fairgrounds - Lynchburg
  • Georgetown Park - Washington D.C.
  • Hippodrome Park - Cincinnati, OH. The park was also referred to as United States Park.
  • Gunther Park (Clark St and Leland Ave) - Chicago; now Chase Park [5]
  • National Association Grounds - Cleveland
  • Lee Park (Moore Street and North Boulevard) - Richmond; became Boulevard Field of the Richmond Climbers in 1917, and now The Diamond[6]

Tex, have you guys done the AA & NA teams? Could you possibly do the Federal League? I know No Pepper has already done them but maybe they could use an update? Also not sure if he has road uniforms for that.

Someone just asked about the Federal League a few pages back... We completed that some time ago and all are posted here... We have not done the other two mentioned... After working on the pre 1990 Negro leagues I really don't think I could offer much improvement on No Peppers collection...

Wait ... whatever happened to the Birmingham Industrial League ... there were 6 of them, as you have pointed it out ... (it's okay ... if you're anxious with the next project ...) ... I would love to see this United States Baseball League as well ... can't wait to see these logos ...

tx ... Seriously, you're the master, along with knuckler (is he ok, haven't heard from him, in awhile ...) ... you can lay that BIL, aside for a rainy day and concentrate on the USBL - your choice ... just I have a feeling that your passion, at the moment, is on the USBL ... I'm here for the ride, gathering all the Logos from this thread, as much as possible ... your happy fan!!!

I don't know what's up with Knuckler, I haven't heard from him in a while myself... I do hope all is well with him... BTW he is the master and I am but the student... It really doesn't matter which one goes first, we'll get'em all done... Really appreciate all of your support...

Navy Blue Lakers Jersey

Tx I hope you dont mind one more request. A while back cave butter posted the cleveland lakers logo in navy blue. I know you already did an awesome Cleveland Lakers jersey but I was wondering if you could whip another one up that is navy blue to match cave butter's logo.

You should direct your request to Cavebutter for he makes his own caps and jerseys with his logos... Try him in his thread:

So, never posted on here before, but I'm OOTP user from way back - really loved this thread and I'd like to help out any way I can. Anyway, I'm working on a alternate history game and wound up using a ton of knuckler's logos. Anyway, started making more in the same vein to go with them, here's the first, I'll upload more if there is demand

Im sorry it wsn't cave butter, it was knuckled who did the logo. You did a jersey for the beige and light green, just wondering if you also do one in that fits the navy one as well. If you're caught up in another project and can't I understand.

Hey, I have one for you, if you'd like to make a cap & jersey: Vincennes Velvets. They played in the Class D Mississippi-Ohio Valley League in 1951 and 1952 at Nehi Park in my hometown of Vincennes, Indiana. This is the only picture I could find. I remember seeing a color picture of their uniform years ago, and seem to recall that the colors were pretty similar to St. Louis Browns colors - mostly brown, with a bit of orange.

If you can't make it, or aren't taking requests at the moment, no big deal. But if you are, I'd appreciate it. Either way, thanks!
