Smile 06/08 Update: New injury-related features in OOTP 12

Hey guys,

just a quick update - things are going fine and I am in the process of finishing up the last couple new features for OOTP 12 before fixing the remaining bugs of the beta version. So, we're on schedule for the June 20th release

I have just finished coding the new injury system enhancements. Basically there are three new aspects here:

1) For some injuries, the exact type/ duration is not immediately revealed. Basically, the diagnosis may take up to 4-5 days for severe injuries. Once the diagnosis is revealed, a league news article (for good players) and a manager email will be sent.

2) This only makes sense if we have retroactive DL assignments, so I added this as well. The game stores the date of an injury, and if the date is in the past of the DL assignment, the length of the DL stay will be reduced by the time difference. So when you place a player on the 15-day DL who was injured 3 days ago, he just has to spend 12 days on the DL.

3) While I was in good mood, I also added rehab assignments to the minor leagues. You can send a player to the minors (right-click menu -> transactions submenu) directly from the DL if the DL time has ended. Position players may stay 20 days in the minors and pitchers 30 days. A minor league option is not used in this case. The game prompts you to activate/DFA the player again if the rehab assignment time has elapsed. By the way, this is not a cosmetic feature, players do have a 'rust' rating after injuries (this influences performance & injury risk), and by playing in the minors the player gets back into shape and the rust gets reduced/removed entirely.

Hope you like this

Cheers,
Markus

Markus, any chance the 7-day DL for concussions can sneak in there, too?

Awesome additions, also great to know that there is a rust factor when coming off the DL. Everytime I don't think the game can get better, you manage to prove me wrong.

It's unbelieveable how Markus just throws in Injury Diagnosis/Retroactive DL/Rehab Assignments...

Anyway, I'm sure it'll come out in due time, but I'm curious if certain injury types/lengths will require rehabbing while others won't, and how we'll know the difference?

Great news - two questions:

1. What determines a "Good" player vs not "Good" for the news item?

2. A player injured 3 days before going on the 15 day DL only needs to spend 12 days on the DL. This could get complicated. If you DL is set 15 days, you can't take them off after 12 regardless if injury is healed. You could get into all kinds of scenarios here depending on your DL lenght and injury length in relation to that.

So, let's say player A is injured on the 10th, you place him on the 15 day DL on the 13th. Does this mean his actual DL time started on the 10th or 13th?

Thanks

I think that's the point of this. If a player has been hurt for 3 days, and then placed on the DL, the game will treat that as if he had been on the DL since the time he got hurt. So he's injured on the 10th, but you only place him on the DL on the 13th, he will be eligible to be activated from the DL on the 25th.

Also, will we be allowed to swap people from the 15 to 60-day DLs now? I mean, presumably once their 15-day stint is up, we could activate them and then put them back on the 60-day - will that time now be counted retroactive to their injury date?

The new injury system sounds awesome-- just a quick question, does the retroactive DL dates apply to minor league players as well or just for the major league disabled list?

1. If he gets a news article, he's good.

2. He said the time left on the DL is reduced, so no worries.

3. 10th basically.

Hey, as I'm thinking about this more...

Is there a way to transfer a player from the 15 day to the 60 day DL without having to activate him first?

I had this come up in OOTP11-- I had a player who was on the 15 day DL get into a car accident and be sidelined for four months because of the new injury. I had to demote someone off my roster, activate the injured guy, and then put him on the 60 day DL. Not a huge deal, but it could cause a morale blink when you do the movement...

Great News Markus. One question/request (probably way too late!), any way to improve the back end of an injury in the same way that the front end has now been modified, beyond just rehab assignments? I know that "setbacks" were added last time but I'm thinking more about having guys go from "out" until a specific date, to becoming "day-to-day" and able to play before being fully healed. Also, not knowing for definite when a player is fully healed but rather knowing that he's cleared to play.

I guess what I'm suggesting is to change the way injuries are dealt with from a static model to a dynamic one. What's being modified on the front end I think moves this forward
