From Cuba yesterday comes news of the death of Connie Marrero two days before his 103rd birthday. Marrero had been the oldest living major leaguer for the past three years. He pitched for the Washington Senators for five years (1950-1954) and was a one-time American League All-Star (1951).
Upon Marrero's death, catcher Mike Sandlock who played for the Braves, Dodgers, and Pirates in a sporadic major league career between 1942 and 1953 becomes the oldest living major leaguer at age 98 years, 6 months. He retired 60 years ago after finishing his career playing for the Phillies' AAA affiliate in 1954.

Seems to be the Almendares team, Cuban League (see Connie Marrero - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Do you by any chance have a home photos of my father Jesse Jefferson #51 1980 with the Pirates? Was only with the Pirates the last part of the '80 season. Made only appearance on Oct. 3rd, 1980 against the Cubs.

I have this pic of your father and it appears to be at Three Rivers Stadium. Although, so many stadiums of that era looked alike, and without any other players in the dugout, it's hard to say with 100% accuracy. But to me, having spent so much time at Three Rivers, I am reasonably positive that it is in Pittsburgh.

BTW, it's an honor to meet you. I remember when your father came to the Pirates.
