Does anyone have a clearer shot of this image? I was told it was taken at the Haymakers Grounds but I don't have a date on it.

Carey Selph 1929
Nothing spectacular here. I came across a photo of Carey Selph from spring training of 1929 in the St. Louis Globe Democrat (March 20, 1929). I had no clue who he is, so I went to his bio on the SABR website.
Four days after this photo was published, he re-injured a knee that he had previously injured in 1928 participating in a football scrimmage at Baylor University, where he was an assistant coach. Branch Rickey later stated that Selph had won the starting job prior to hurting his knee. Instead, he ended up as a backup with only 25 games for the season, hurting his knee yet again on July 13, 1929. He hurt it again during the 1930 season. After a bounce-back season with Houston in 1931, he was taken by Chicago in the Rule 5 draft and played all of 1932 with the White Sox. He was back in Houston in 1933 and 1934 as a player-manager, and then retired from baseball. Here he is at the start of this journey, just a promising rookie in spring training after a good game. |

Ward
I received a message on BR Bullpen from some person known simply as Rick who said he's with the SABR biographical research committee who claims the image of John E. Ward (1884) tnfoto posted here is actually of Piggy Ward. Is there any base for this claim or evidence? I haven't seen anything in regards to it so I figured I'd ask before I removed it from the site.
