OOTP Steve Blass Disease
Wow... I didn't realize that Markus had even programmed in some Steve Blass/Rick Ankiel lines...
This guy started as one of the most dominant pitchers in the league, helping to lead NY to several championships... Then he completely lost control: Code:
Year IP K BB K/9 BB/9 K/BB ERA 2004 266.3 348 57 11.76 1.93 6.11 1.86 2005 277.3 360 45 11.68 1.46 8.00 2.69 2006 261 323 26 11.14 0.90 12.42 2.93 2007 278.7 318 31 10.27 1.00 10.26 2.87 2008 273 341 43 11.24 1.42 7.93 3.36 2009 249 303 70 10.95 2.53 4.33 4.52 2010 222.3 271 95 10.97 3.85 2.85 5.34 2011 217 262 108 10.87 4.48 2.43 5.13 |

Or the park factors are such that lots of EBH hits are given up. |

Yeah, the defense was nothing special -- but I just checked the Catobase, the team finished 1-1-2 in runs scored in 05-07, so it looks like the offense more than made up for it.
I just noticed that his HR allowed has also skyrocketed: Code:
IP HR HR/9 266.3 8 0.27 277.3 18 0.58 261 18 0.62 278.7 17 0.55 273 31 1.02 249 44 1.59 222.3 31 1.26 217 36 1.49 |

Just a guess.... but was 2008 OOTP5, and 2009+ OOTP6. We saw this happen with several players after our migration. For example, Roy Oswalt was a three time Cy Young award winner in OOTP5 (tops in wins, era, whip), then when we moved to 6, he had an average year, and then in the midst of a second VERY average year I moved him off my roster.

Nope, all in OOTP 6... No injuries recorded in his file either, he just took a couple of hits to his control, since 2007 his control ratings have gone 97-86-62-47-35, and his movement has gone from the 80s to the 60s.
In 2012 he went 14-10, 4.47, with 282 Ks (he's only once finished as low as 2nd in Ks) and 142 BBs in 227.2 IP, which is good for his usual 11.15 K/9 but he's up to 5.63 BB/9. I'm thinking of changing his nickname to Nolan with numbers like that... |

That stinks, but is also why OOTP6 is really amazing, you never know

It wouldn't be fun if these things didn't happen... The amazing thing is, even with his troubles, he's 2nd all time in wins. He seems to have gotten things under control (no pun intended) -- he's bounced back with two consecutive seasons of ERAs better than the league average, including a 2013 campaign that featured a 20-7 record, with 347 Ks (and 154 walks) in 249.1 innings -- good enough for the Cy Young, even though his era was a pedestrian 4.01. Now that I look, though, that is good for 8th in the league in ERA

I'm interested in knowing how old he was in 2009.

One more question -
Was 2004 the first year of your league? If so, you're likely running into the situation where stats are "normalizing." I don't remember who did the study on it, but they found it takes a good 15 seasons to get the stats where they should be and therefore recommend simming about that much (let the computer run for a little while under the "sim X seasons" method) before taking over a team.

Oh, I can tell that the game is trying to get talents and ratings under control -- there've been a couple years where none of the rookies were anything special, a seemingly disproportionate number of talent hits.
It keeps it interesting, though |
