One Man, Thirty Teams

I loved the idea jaykno14 had when he decided to try and win a championship with every team, as I had always thought about trying it as well. I didn't want to step on his turf, and it appears his franchise is dead, so I will be attempting the same thing. I will attempt to win the World Series with all 30 teams, each time starting in 2005 with TF's MLB rosters.

Trading will be set to hard, and towards "neutral", that way I can't just rob anyone. However, I will try my best to Each team will be selected randomly through baseball-reference, and I will do an update every season on how things are going. The first team I will try to lead will be the:

Cincinnati Reds

Well, this will be tough. Here's a recap of the '05 Season:

Record: 67-95, 31 games behind the Cardinals
We will have the 5th pick in the rookie draft, but if I remember correctly the pool isn't THAT deep with this roster set.

Transactions
Near the end of July we were well out of it, and realized that Ken Griffey Jr. had to go. I love the guy, but he won't hang around with us for too long. We went fishing in Florida, and came back with CF Juan Pierre. I wanted Pierre becauset his team has no leadoff hitter, and I love the potential of him hitting before Casey/Kearns/Dunn.

Looks like getting Romero was a good move for you, though.

Yeah, he has pretty darn good ratings now (8/7/10) with 10/8/10 talents. He's 29, though, so I don't expect him to hit 10/8/10.

Pitching was an area of concern heading into the off-season, and we beefed it up for sure. Here are our signings:

SP Barry Zito, 27 years old
We signed Zito for $8m for two seasons, and he will be the #2 starter on our staff behind Romero. Zito has ratings of 8/8/9.

SP Ted Lilly, 30 years old
Lilly recieved a very cheap 3.5 million for the next two seasons, and has ratings of 8/7/8. He will be our #3 starter.

MR Justin Speier, 32 years old
We brought in Speier (8/7/8) as our best setup man, and let's hope he can do a good job.

Other notable signings:
3B Placido Polanco
3B Tony Graffanino
C Robert Fick
2B Pablo Ozuna

Amateur Draft
As expected there wasn't much to choose from in this class with the 5th overall pick. We wound up with 4 star CF Harold Hone, who has ratings of 6/7/9/7/7

I like this idea, and am sure that I'll be following along in 2009 when you're on team #26 of 30.

Nice level of detail on the posts - you give the most interesting facts and I like the year-end stats post.

Wow, that is quite a goal you have here. How are you doing it. Simming a day at a time? A week? More? I was toying around with an idea similiar to this, but I would try to take over every team that expanded after 1961 and seeing how quickly I could turn them into a contender/ or champ.
Good luck!!

All I do is set my lineups/pitching staff, and sim a week up to a month at a time. It's not micro managing, as that would take up too much time. I can usually get a season in every 20-60 minutes depending on my involvement.

2006 Review

We came in to 2006 looking for pitching, and pitching is what we got. We posted a 4.01 team ERA, good for 5th best in the league. Our four top starters had ERA's under 3.80, with 3 having ERA's under 3.20.

HOWEVER

OOTP made sure to prove to me that it wouldn't be as easy as 1-2-3. Never thought you'd hear this out of a Reds team, but the Reds were led by pitching, and had absolutely no hitting. The team's .252 average ranked 28th, and our 704 runs scored also sat at 28th. The end result? A 72-90 season, watching the St. Louis Cardinals win back to back World Series.

Barry Zito wound up getting hurt for the season after 22 starts, as he went 4-7 in those starts with a 3.10 ERA.

We ended up trading overpaid Sean Casey (made my first mental error by signing him for 8 million) to the Padres for MR Akinori Otsuka. Adam Dunn was moved to 1B to fill the hole, and 5 star prospect Chris Dickerson took over duties in LF. We also traded for little known Brad Cresse out of St. Louis to play catcher. 2B William Bergolla would take home NL Rookie of the Year honors.

After looking at those stats, 27 losses came from my bullpen. We wound up signing Danny Baez (9/7/8) in Free Agency to try and fix our holes a little bit more.

As for the draft, we took 4 star catcher Carrol Adis (20 years young). He has ratings of 6/8/8/7/8 and hopefully will be able to provide pop at the catcher spot down the road.

Looking at talent upgrades, it appears as we've been blessed in the pitching department. MR Adam Harang is suddenly 9/7/8 rated, and the best news comes from 28 year old SP Josh Hancock, who is now 8/7/9 rated as a starter, and CPU thinks he should be my number one guy. He was in the minors all of last season. We also have SP James Paduch in AAA, who is a 5 star prospect currently with ratings of 6/6/8.

Here is our opening day lineup for 2007:

SP Josh Hancock
SP JC Romero
SP Ted Lily
SP Eric Milton
SP James Paduch (Zito has 2 weeks of recovery left)

The lineup:
C Brad Cresse
1B Adam Dunn
2B William Bergolla
3B Edwin Encarnacion (4.5 star 24 year old rookie)
SS Placido Polanco
LF Chris Dickerson
CF Juan Pierre
RF Austin Kearns

No, a week up to a month at a time. This is more of me GM'ing instead of coaching.

2007 is where it all came together for the Cincinnati Reds. The team had a remarkable pitching staff, ending the year with a 3.64 era, good for best in the league. Runs scored was still pretty low (759, ranked 25th), but they managed to get the job done.

The Reds finished '07 with an NL best 92-70 record, but oddly we were just 40-41 at home, and 52-29 on the road. Three starters won fifteen+ games (Milton 17, Romero 15, Zito 15), while the top of the order (Pierre, Bergolla, Dickerson) combined for 224 steals, a .298 batting average, 39 homers, and 231 RBI. Adam Dunn also added 39 HR and 108 RBI for the club on his own, despite a .227 average. In the playoffs, we faced the Wild Card Winning Colorado Rockies, who managed to beat us 3 games to 1, ending our season and leaving us very disappointed.

The good news is that our 59m payroll is now on the way up (showing dedication to winning), as we signed Barry Zito to a 9.5m deal, JC Romero to a 10m deal, Eric Milton to a 10m deal, and Adam Dunn to a 10.5m deal

I love how the catcher is leading the squad in steals!

While the catcher isn't leading the team in steals - you do have 2 guys with 80+ steals and another with 59! What's the record for most steals by a team in a season?
