In OOTP 4, I would like to see the ability to break the American League & National League out to four divisions a la the new NFL configuration. I typically expand my leagues to 32 teams and I would find it best if those 32 teams could be in two leagues with four teams in each division (I suppose this would either eliminate the Wild Card or cause an NFL-like two wild card).
I'd also love the ability even to create third (or even fourth for balance) Leagues. This is secondary to the division request. It would be cool to add the Federal League and the Continential League -- or maybe even the Japanese League or something that -- for more variety in options. Any chance the Development Team would consider the divisions request or the league request? |

Yes, Allentown is quite boring. Without the Internet, I would have to move away.

Going back to the topic, can't you create 3?

You can create 3 divisions, but not three leagues like he wanted.

I posted a request complementary to this suggestion in the wish list section. I think it would great to have a playoff editor that actually gave you the ability to determine how many teams make the playoffs, how many rounds are the playoffs, what are the requirements to make the playoffs and the ability to make bye teams.
In more distant versions of OOTP it would be great to actually make requirements to make the playoffs. Imagine a league where all teams that finish 6 games or fewer from the weakest division winner make the playoffs, or a league that only teams that finish with 90 wins or more make the playoffs. These would be leagues with variable # of rounds each year dependent on how many teams qualify. Another benefit of customizeable playoffs would be the ability to create a losers bracket like college baseball.

I have posted on potentially having greater customization in the playoffs, however, I don't think your idea of having flexible numbers of rounds each year is that feasable... although I think with some effort it could be done, I'm not sure that it could be done right.. (you would end up with odd byes and one league potentially having to wait a round longer than the other league and it just doesn't seem like a great method IMO)
When I've posted, I managed to keep it simple, but stil hopefully give people some options. In a 3 (or 4 if added in Version 4) divsion league setup you'd have the playoffs as they are today period, only option, sorry.. In a 2 division set up you could have either the LCS, or the current set up with 2 Wild Cards In a 1 division set up you either have World Series only, LCS between 1st and one wild card, or the current set up with 3 Wild Cards What this would also do is allow people who only have one league to have a playoff system because they could elect to have a playoff system with more tiers than just the world series. The reason I have mentioned this is because the mechanism for each of these types of playoffs is already in the game, it should just be a matter of enabling the different style of playoff for the other possible league set ups, this could be set as a toggle in the League Setup screen. Anythoughts. |

The more I think about it. I think giving the user an option to set up his own prefered matchups is the easiest short term solution.
The default playoff schedule will automatically be created but the user can edit the teams selected or add more games. It would be work intesive but takes some of the decision making out of the code and back into the user's hand.
