Velocity affects what?

it seems purely for cosmetic purposes to me. i notice no correlation between K's or lower WHIP with high velocity pitchers in comparison to low velocity pitchers.

anyone have any insight?

Conventional wisdom says it has an effect on strikeouts, but less than that of Stuff.

It does have an impact on k's and also on development of stuff.

In my regressions velocity has no effect. Did Markus say it has an effect on K's? I could see it having an influence on development of stuff, since high-stuff pitchers tend to be high-velocity pitchers in the game.

I believe he did, but I know that Henry discussed it at length.

I haven't really found this to be true; while high-velocity pitchers tend to have high stuff I have not noticed a reverse correlation.

So a pitcher's Stuff rating will develop faster with a higher velocity rating?

Am I just restating the obvious?

Which of these three is a rhetorical question?

I haven't studied it....but I do remember some member(s) of OOTPDevelopments saying that velocity effects K's and development. I have not seen a massive influence...but it might be there somewhat.

Only time I pay attention to velocity is if all things are equal between two players that I'm choosing between. I'll take the guy with the higher velocity. But if one guy has talent or current ratings of 8-8-8 but throws 88 MPH...and another guy has 8-7-7 but throws 98-100MPH...I will take the 88 MPH guy.

Kind of weird, though, when you get to take points from velocity to add to other areas in Spring Training. Granted, the chances of success of adding to the other categories isn't great, but it's like you have a pool of consumable points to place in areas that are much more important.
