Longtime league looking for GM´s (Ootp6)

November 2001: The GBL (HP ) startet with an Ini-Draft (Ootp3) and about 20 GM`s. The first season was played with a day by day Simulation before it was changed to a 2 days per day (2 weeks per real week or about 3 months for a season) simulation. The next cut is now happening between the 8th and 9th season when we change the language from German to English. Unfortunately it is quite difficult to find German baseball fans who own Ootp. Therfore we will use the advantage of this board to continue in English. The following part shall give you a short list concerning advantages and disadvantages of the GBL:

Advantages:
1. The Commish does NOT have an own team.
2. The league exists for almost 3 ½ years.
3. The GBL is always in action since every day is a SIM.
4. In almost 3 ½ years I just missed 3 or 4 SIM`s due to technical reasons.
5. Our Homepage offers the opportunity to post articles on our Board which will appear on the Main Page aswell. Furthermore you will find automatically generated Stats, Standings and Breaking News.
6. We vote for our own Allstars (Online-Tool). All Star Voting
7. We vote for our own Hall of Fame. HOF-Site, HOF-Player
8. We have Catobase. Catobase - GM´s

9. Perhaps the biggest difference to other leagues: We replaced the contract extensions and FA-turns within the Offseason by an own system. I want to explain this:

In Ootp players demand static (from the game chosen) wages while negotiating their new contract. In this system it is not of interest how much money is in the league. This leads (at least in our game)to the point that every GM may extend with every player if he wants to and therefore rarely good players appear during the FA-turn. This makes it difficult for weaker teams to improve. They have the money but no chance to sign good players.
Therefore we installed the system of the RFA (restricted Free Agents) and UFA (unrestricted Free Agents). This means that every player, whose contract expires at the end of a season will become a RFA. If his actual GM wants to extend the contract he has to notify an auction in which every GM can bid for the player. These auctions last for 5 days. At the end of it we have an actual real value of the player which is in most cases over the static value from Ootp. After the auction the actual GM has the right to keep the player, but he has to pay the actual real value of the player (he gets him a bit cheaper because of some modifications e.g. for loyalty). An RFA who does not get a contract offer from his actual GM, will become an UFA und will be offered in an auction aswell (this is like the FA-turn in Ootp). To transplant this we have an Online tool, which works almost like ebay. Every GM has a username and a password with which he can log in. With the help of a search function you may look for all RFA of the season. You may place interesting players on a shortlist and you will be informed by email when the auction of this player starts. As in ebay you may bid on running auctions in which you cannot see who is bidding for this player aswell and how much he is offering. The only thing you will be told is when you are the bidder with the highest bid. There is a limit of 8 Bids per player (this is because you shall not stalk up to the highest bid slowly). As in ebay an agent is bidding for the GM. You enter your highest offer and the agent offers the minimum offer needed to be the highest bidder.

10. Due to the RFA/UFA the Offseason is almost needless (only Rule 5 and spring Training), the Amateur draft will happen during the first month parallel on the board. We try to integrate the Amateur draft in our Online Tool for the season 2010 (then it will be as in BOSI).

Disadvantage:

The GBL is no league who makes 10 seasons per year. We need almost exactly 3 months for the regular season and furthermore about 2 weeks for the Play offs. The offseason is quite compact and lasts about 1 week. On balance we make about 3 seasons per year. But therefore you have 364 days of action (New Years Eve is Offday).

Here again a summary:
Name: German Baseball League (language of the league is English!)
Does the Commish own a team: NO
Finances: actual the rules from Ootp (incl. WW, DfA), no cash limit, no salary cup. Own rules for contract extensions and FA (Off season)
Sim-Scheme: every day, 2 days simulated, Teamfile deadline: every day at 6 PM EST (so you have all-evening and night for your teamfiles).
Player: We startet with a 2001 roster, we are now in 2009.

Before I introduce the Openings a few remakrs to the language:
As already mentioned most GM`s are German. We do have two Americans within our league, one is living in the USA. All contents on the Homepage are English (or will be replaced by English translations as soon as possible). Even on the Board we write in English since March. Since most of the GM`s and me are German, we will surely make some writing mistakes. I hope, that this is no problem for potential new GM´s. The communication per Email should not be a problem either.

Now, the Openings:

1. Philadelphia Phillies:

Were contenders for a long time in 2008. Due to inactivity of the GM they fall. They have a poor Farm-System, but the best squad of all Openings. Financials are even, Earnings are a bit higher then expanses.

2. New York Mets:

Weakest team of the last season, actual squad is very poor. But they have quite some good Prospects in the Majors and AAA/AA. Big advantage of the Mets is that their payroll is just 30 millions ad their earnings 60 millions. Therefore they have a huge amount of cash available. Due to the very healthy finances you can start the rebuild of the team immediately and you have the first pick in the coming draft.

3. St. Louis Cardinals:

An average team with some very good Prospects in the Majors and AAA/AA. The team has some debts at the moment but the damage is not high due to the 20 millions cash.

4. Oakland A´s:

Financially solid, a few good Prospects and ready-made players. Good base to work with.

5. Cleveland Indians:

Was in the World Series last year! This is one of the best teams in the league and by far the team with the most Cash.

6. Toronto Bluejays:

Good finances and some strong prospects on Major/AAA level.

-----------------------

Right now we are at the end of April and the Amateur Draft will start soon.

If you are interested in this league please write me a mail to:

GBL Commish

Thank you for your attention.

Hi,

I just want to add that this league has more life than any other league I tried before. We have own solutions for OOTPs weaknesses, and an unrivaled daily SIM schedule. Come on and join, we have two openings left!
