The Year of the Tyson
Yes Gentlemen(and ladies of course) mark your calenders, June 11th is officially the beggining of the year of the Tyson. I predict that in exactly one year from that date we will be seeing the single greatest resurgence since George Foreman dusted off his gloves and came back to win the heavyweight championship. Never has their been a more hungry and determined Tyson. Never a more committed Tyson. What we will see in the coming months will be an incredible display of Determination, Desire, Will, and overall Domination of all opponents he faces. I Predict that Mike Tyson will be heavyweight champ by January 1, 2006 after facing and defeating the only true champ today: John Ruiz.
Ruiz you say? But isnt he the guy who lost to Jones? Well do recall he is also the only champ who has faced all comers. Who has defeated the likes of Golota, Kirk Johnson, Evander Holyfield, and Hasim Rahman. This man is the real deal. What makes a champion is the desire to fight and the ability to win big fights. He has both and when he gets done spanking James Toney like he's Toney's daddy Tyson and Ruiz can get together and get it on. Then Tyson can take care of those other pretenders in Klitchko and Byrd. That is if they dare face him. My prediction is that they will run and will hide. But Tyson will find them and destroy them. And if Lennox wants to keep running his mouth Tyson can lay a whoopin on that pompous candy ass everyone thinks is a true champ. (Yeah the champion of the has beens and unprepared) Mike Tyson is poised to make history. Its gonna happen. And when it does Tyson Fans everywhere will take to the streets and rejoice and all you non-believeing bandwagoners (mainly everyone on this forum) can watch and wish you could be a part. The year of the Tyson, its gonna be good. Boxing is finally going to be exciting again and Mike Tyson's gonna be champ. Hallelujah, Ain't life Great!

I would like to see Tyson make it back to the top but don't see it happening. Lewis whooped Tyson already and would do it again. The style Lewis fights with is all wrong for Tyson. Anyways, good luck with your prediction.

I like the way you are so sure of what will happen. Were you also saying this in April of 2004? Remember the words Danny Williams KO 4?

I was feeling a bit down today and needed a good laugh ... make sure your boy gets by The Great kevin McBride first. Five years from now you'll be rushing to your local street vendor for "Bum Fights 17: The Mike Tyson Saga", maybe when he sinks that low he'll let you carry the boom box in his Street entourage.
Good luck with that. |

Tyson's record 6 March 1985 - 21 July 1989
37-0 (33 KOs) Tyson's record 11 February 1990 - present day 13-5 (11 KOs) (2 NC) 13 wins in 15 years, compared to 37 in 4 years and 4 months. So basically, for 75% of his boxing career, Tyson has sucked ***. |

You hit the nail on the head with two words, Chris. "Back then." Tyson was awesome in his prime. I think that at his peak he probably could have bested any heavyweight champion who ever lived. That was then. This is now.
While he may physically resemble the Tyson of old, his skills and reflexes have deteriorated to the point that he is no longer a viable contender. Like most formerly great, aging heavyweights, his primary weapons are his experience and punching power; neither of which will earn him the accolades of the past. I respect "Iron" Mike for all of his accomplishments in the ring, but it's time to move on.

TysonFan, did you not see what this "candy ass" did to your boy when they fought? Personally, I think it would be a great story if Tyson was able to somehow come back and dominate. But I only say this because the Heavyweight Division is just terrible at the moment. Looking at the rankings and the ages of the top contenders, I fear that it will only get worse before it gets better. |

I have to say when Tyson came on the scene I thought he was awsome. As he progressed I thought he would become one of, if not the greatest heavyweights of all time. Many people thought the death of Cus D'amato was a major contribution to his eventual downward slide. My own view is that he was never the same after getting rid of Kevin Rooney as his trainer. I don't totally discount the possibility that he could win back a heavyweight title, but the bottom line is I wouldn't put money on it. I can understand his finnancial reasons for continuing to fight but ideally I would prefer him to retire before he loses the respect I have for him as a fighter. I can't condone what he has done in his personal life, but judge him by his abilities in the ring.

Fact is, Tyson can still knockout any Heavyweight they put in the ring with him..Thats one thing no other HW can claim. That's why I want to keep watching, that's why he deserves to keep fighting.
Tryin to tell me he can't blast Ruiz into another time zone and get himself a HW belt? I wouldn't count Mike out yet...

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping Iron Mike can claw his way back to the top. I really don't expect it to happen, but in today's HW division, you never know.
It would be nice to see Tyson get his head together and come back strong and be able to end his career in a better place than he's been for the last 10-15 years. The young Mike Tyson was a work of boxing art, as electrifying as any figher I have ever seen. Maybe I feel a bit more sympathetic toward him than most because of the time he spent around Cleveland. Of course, when he was out on the town here in Cleveland he acted like a jerk, but still... Heck of a fighter. |

People rarely change. If someone is a punk at 25, 99.9% of the time, they will still be a punk at 40. I'm from Ohio but now live in New York, when I travel through Albany, I always hear of Tyson stories and how he mistreated people. I can't wait to see him get knocked on his backside again, though I don't think the young Irish kid will do it.
