It's Not About the Cash. It's About the Championships.
I’m sure the thought has popped into all our heads. That quaint little reoccurring fantasy: What if professional baseball players were still bound by the reserve clause? What if players were to play their entire careers with the same club? It’s naïve to think the players would work in such an environment, and the business and competitive balance issues would be too much to overlook. But all that aside, wouldn’t the results be interesting? How would the Yankees have faired without all the trades and signings? How many rings could the Expos have won with all the stars they grew?
Revisionist historians meet the Locked-In Baseball League. Here, players will play their entire careers with the teams they came up with. No trades, no free agency (and for some no thanks! ).The LIBL will be an exact historical replay, with a few small exceptions (besides the previously mentioned one). There will always be a World Series, there will be no wars, and there will be no scandals (ala Black Sox). The one flaw to the whole premise is the fact that I can’t prevent releases. I’ve turned off all roster rules so as to keep them at a minimum and hopefully it won’t be a problem. Since this is #2 on my dynasty priority list behind the PABA, updates will be once weekly, usually on Sundays. Each update will cover one year and will be similar in style to the HOB reports. A big thank you goes out to lgkeeper for the general idea. Last edited by goroyals; 04-26-2005 at 05:04 PM. |

The Gload of the Future...
(I’m not much of a philosophical masturbatory scribe
. In fact, I'd go as far as to say this sucks)The soon-to-be pilgrim stood hunched over in front of the mirror. The image that returned his gaze was that of a downtrodden old man, one that looked stuck in the past and in stark contrast to the newness of the facility. His head was the first casualty of age; it had been bald for years. His decades old back injury, forever unhealed, limited him and forced him to crouch. But, the eyes…they revealed the hope on the inside. They were bright and sparkling with promise of a better reality. “Mr. Gload, its time,” the young lab clerk informed him. He hobbled towards the launching platform, as his mind ran over the reasons for his trip. Ross Gload had once been one of the top players in the major leagues, a superstar with incredible luck and skill. That promise and skill had all been wasted. Wasted because of greed. He’d never won it all, and even though he had become a Hall-of-Famer he was still a worthless loser for all he was concerned. But he was about to change all that. “Mr. Gload if you would please stand on the top of the X,” the main scientist said from the chamber above the launch pad, “thank you. Clear the floor! Thirty seconds!” A female computer voice announced, “Launch number three-oh-five. Departure: May Nineteen, Two-Thousand Forty-Five. Destination: January One, Nineteen Oh-One.” |

I hate myself and my ever evolving moods. What seemed like a good idea just a few short days ago seems now seems as terrible as Lime Coke. I've realized that I've no interest in undertaking this. So its better just to bite the bullet before this gets going. I appologize to any potential readers. On a positive note, this thread may have a shot at 2005's Worst Dynasty List!
