2005 Photoset and other stuff

I'm jst about done with a 2005 photo set. Thus far, I've got everyone but the WS and Yanks done, so should be finished up within the hour. I've got pretty much everyone, NRI's and all included. Should be out tommorow morning, maybe.

If you want to keep up on progress and maybe grab it before I remember to head back here and post a link, go here.

While you're at it, I've got some other stuff going on that'll hit soon. Not sure If I can toss up the modified dark blue theme, so I'm also looking for some kind of clarification on what's allowed with this.

hey. I really don't want to come across the wrong way here...but I'm curious about the player totals.

you mention the set has all players on the 40-man rosters and the NRIs and that the set is about 1,500. But, there were just shy of 1,800 invited to spring training this year by my count. Not a biggie, but I'm curious about the discrepancy.

It's pretty simple. They either don't have photos or aren't listed on teams roster pages on MLB.com. If they aren't on there, they aren't included.

Great work but I've noticed a slight problem, for some reason Keichi Yabu's picture is used for a couple of A's prospects like Jeremy Brown and Tyler Johnson.

Yep, it's how MLB had their pictures. No idea why. There's a couple of Rangers with the same thing. I only included them as is so it would be easier to go back and fix them later once MLB.com fixes the mistakes.

[edit] Fixed the A's now. Gonna check the Rangers. Tyler Johnson's no longer on the site from what I can see, though.

the good news: the missing A's pictures are up on MLB's site, which I think is the last team with any major holes in it
the bad news: Tyler Johnson isn't an Athletic.

Well, Rangers are still messed up. I didn't notice any other teams with these kinds of errors, but honestly, I wasn't paying that close attention. JUst copy the name, save picture, paste name, add the "_", and save. I'll have to keep an eye open. I'll toss up an update on my own webspace with the added photos.

Tyler Johnson is listed here.

But is that a photo of Tyler Johnson or Jeremy Brown?

What's wrong with these AL West teams anyway?!

I just went through the same stuff and saw Pedro Astacio's pic for about 3 Rangers. The link to Adrian Hernandez came up blank (and one other I cannot remember). I pulled in about 1400 'active' pix, but that site has around +2000 player names. Some deadwood and some retired players, too.

I'll take a look at your files today. It's a pain to pull all of those up. I saw the earlier threads about the condition of the WhiteSox and Yankees pix -- less than stellar. San Diego pix are quite pale, too.

BTW, DraftDodger, I was thinking about you as I pulled my set together. I have one 90x135 and one at 60x90.

there is a trick to getting the correct photos - you have to create a URL that leads to the correct photo (as opposed to following the HTML link), but it can be a lot of work (which is why I wrote a program to make that process fast and easy).

there are about 1800 photos for 2005 up on MLBs site - it's just a matter of finding them. I do have a set ready to go, but I'm waiting until opening day for last-minute changes.

and yeah, I'll do one in a PureSim format as well.

I'm not about to try to compete with either of you.

I don't really need the deadwood anyway.

But on the other matter... I too, was vasted disapointed in a quality of many of the picture available. Now, 1,500 or 1,800 pictures are a huge pain in the butt to go through, but I did a few tests on some of the pictures I considered poor. Results have varied. But take a look for yourself.

Not much of a differance here. The SD pics are just pretty dull and overexposed. Still, there is some slight improvement. Had more success with this next one.

Personally, I think this one came out nicely. I'll probally give as many as I can a going over, but it's a lot of work.

I played around with some pics too, but didn't have a lot of success. The San Diego ones, which are by far the worse, couldn't make better at all. Most of the others were at least tolerable to me, but yeah, what a crappy job from MLB on these.
