Auto Resign? Free Agents?

I posed the following question on the JOBL message board, but nobody seemed to have a definitive answer, so I'll ask it here (I'm fairly certain it has been asked before, but I ran a search and didn't yield any results except for the financial FAQ, which I read, but I didn't see this situation addressed there).

Quote:
I have two players, Kenneth Turner and Kareem Rios, who I signed as free agents to big-league contracts even though they had spent their entire careers up to that point in the minor leagues. They were each signed to 3-year deals, and this is the final season for each of them. I sorta figured, since they were big-money players (Turner makes $7.5 million and Rios 3.6 million per season) that I would re-sign them as I would any other big-leaguer, but since they both only have 2+ years in the bigs, they both show up as 'Automatic Re-sign' on my salary page.

So, my question is, will they be automatically re-signed, and if so for how much? Their current salary? Arb?

Anyone know?

They should be auto-resigned at the league's minimum salary.

Wow, what a bargain. Turner has led the FL in saves for two consecutive seasons, and he'll go from $7.5 million to $300,000? That doesn't sound right, but I'll take it.

Yeah, we contracted a team in Victory League and rather than hold a contraction draft, we just dumped the players into offseason free agency. One of the teams signed two prospects to seven-figure, multiyear deals and they played them out in their entirety in the minor leagues.

After their contracts expired they reverted to minor league deals and now the players are coming up just as normal prospects. It was basically like a signing bonus.

Not if the commish has anything to say about it!

Seriously though, we've had a couple other older prospects slip through into free agency and then get BIG contracts due to the ensuing bidding war. I know a couple of them have been rushed to the bigs to help justify their salary (at least that is what I've deduced), but the whole signing bonus idea would make it a little easier for me (if I was in the situation) to swallow having them in the minors.

Luckily for Chappy, his big salaries actually panned out in the bigs. Unlike Mr. Arthur Capozzi who has spent the last two years in the bigs with a .700 OPS and earning a whopping $17.5 million each season:

Luckily for Tampa, his ratings are finally catching up with his talent -- although I think his talent has slipped a little since signing his big contract.

Cool. With Back-to-back MVP Ben Silveira hitting arbitration next year, I'll need that cash.
