Pitcher playing Shortstop

I just finished reading Steve's "Pitchers Cannot..." sticky in this forum. Well apparently the AI doesn't follow the rules.

I was playing out a game but had to go somewhere, so I simmed the rest of it. It turned out to be a lengthy slugfest. Anyway, for whatever reason, the AI put in one of my pitchers as a pinch runner. Then when the next inning resumed, he remained in the game at shortstop and played the rest of the game there.

This was with 6.11 - and I've never tried doing anything like this myself. I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this?

I wish I'd saved the box score - but my league had been a little flakey before that so I just uninstalled everything and am going to re-install and start a new league.
